@thomasfuchs left MSFT almost a year ago after they swapped me from working on a design system I loved working on to working on death march AI bullshit. Full day meetings, demos every week, throwaway demo at end of week and pivot to learning some new tech and needing a new demo by the end of the week. probably the most miserable ~3 months of my time in tech.

Konnor Rogers (konnorrogers@ruby.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-May-2024 12:20:52 JST Konnor Rogers @laescude @LALegault @thomasfuchs @Wolven that was the hardest part of leaving Microsoft. I have 2 autistic children, one of which is non verbal. At the time they were both under the age of 6 and Microsoft's health insurance was so incredibly good I almost stayed even though I was miserable and my new job was offering $50k more base salary...

especially getting your friends on the mod team to suspend a rape survivor for calling you out after a sarcastic and dismissive response on your part -

Sally Strange (sallystrange@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Friday, 17-May-2024 01:14:42 JST Sally Strange First: Sexual assault survivor asks Thomas not to use the word "rape" to refer to what big tech companies do to people's privacy
Second: Thomas asserts that the word "rape" has meanings besides literal sexual assault (an odd assertion to make in response to a request that is predicated on the existence of multiple possible meanings for the word "rape")
There are two possible explanations for why Thomas chose that as a response:
Either Thomas is very bad at reading comprehension
Or
Thomas is a condescending dickwad who chose to be a jerk to sexual assault victims on purpose just so he could make a point about privacy in tech
Which is it, Thomas?
ETA: in case it's not clear, I am also a sexual assault survivor. We're everywhere! And we don't always agree on everything but I think everyone thinks that dismissing our objections and pretending nothing was ever said is a shitty response to us bringing up our preferences vis-a-vis the language used on our timelines.
