@mattmcirvin@futurebird Pop culture seems a weird thing for them to blame given that we're about as far from the "Everyone is just consuming whatever the TV beams into their brains" complaints of the past as we could possibly be. Memes might not exactly be high art, but I feel as though there's a kind of literacy expected of kids these days that wasn't expected of people in the past, and that they're probably thinking more about much of what they engage with day-to-day.
A while back, I made a Bitsy Jam game about trying and not quite managing to make a watch that displays the time in Cistercian numerals: https://damonwakes.itch.io/hibernation-hassle
Almost two years on, I'm happy to say that I've finally done it! I'd still like to add a battery indicator (and if I'm feeling really fancy, numerals for the date and a step counter), but I'm quite happy with the minimalist look of this as-is. #ESP33#CPP#Watchy#watch#Cistercian#CistercianNumerals#programming#microcontroller
@Molondrongo@futurebird@discoursology I find this even on GrapheneOS, which is generally great. When I open the Files app, there's a sidebar item called "Documents." Is that the "Documents" directory on my phone? Nope! Does it show me all my document-type files in one place? Also nope! How does it decide what should be in there? Nobody knows!
@HauntedOwlbear I was starting to lean towards my usual "rate five really short games for the sake of getting involved" approach, but this has nudged me to set aside two hours for LLLLLL at some point. (It was already one of the ones that had caught my attention through some great writing quoted in the forums.)
@HauntedOwlbear Ah! I knew the animation reminded me of something other than Scooby-Doo. It's got a definite Wizards vibe to it too - especially the gas-masked horse people.
@HauntedOwlbear For a very tiny one, GDevelop may well be worth a look. It's extremely versatile and approachable so will probably be able to do exactly what you want without too much faff, though something more specialised such as AGS would almost certainly be the more efficient choice for a larger game.
This suggestion is almost certainly closer to "heavily modded Twine" than you'd like, but it's native on Linux and likely useful for quick jam games beyond adventure games specifically.
@gdeyke I think it would be annoying and frustrating no matter what: the trick would be to make that a feature. Another concern would be having the optimum strategy involve playing blind at least some of the time, to avoid it simply being a regular FPS that requires the player to keep spamming the trigger button to see. Limited "ammo" might help there.
I kinda want to try dying my hair, but I'm concerned that if I ever stop then I'll basically end up experiencing that Nazi super-ageing thing from Indiana Jones when I discover it's gone way MORE grey in the meantime.
@HauntedOwlbear I wonder how much of this is the usual confident nonsense and how much is due to miscategorisation and totally nonsensical metadata. Summarising reviews actually strikes me as one of the less wildly inappropriate applications of this technology, but it's not surprising that the summary claims the device to be an optical drive when Amazon's slapdash product info seems to suggest that's just what it is.
