@HauntedOwlbear For a very tiny one, GDevelop may well be worth a look. It's extremely versatile and approachable so will probably be able to do exactly what you want without too much faff, though something more specialised such as AGS would almost certainly be the more efficient choice for a larger game.

This suggestion is almost certainly closer to "heavily modded Twine" than you'd like, but it's native on Linux and likely useful for quick jam games beyond adventure games specifically.
