@Hoss @Vril_Oreilly Just don’t buy CostCo diamonds.
They are all color M or N. It’s far enough down that even people who want diamonds don’t want them.

@TeaTootler @Vril_Oreilly @Hoss Gold is stable.
The price only goes up or down according to the buying power of and confidence in imaginary paper fedibux.
@Hoss @Vril_Oreilly @TeaTootler File photo of a boomer investing into a federally insured retirement fund.
@eee Also, “foam up the gold while casting” is even worse. That’s the definition of “bad casting”.
You have endless void all through the metal so it’s impossible to get a good surface finish and everything keeps falling apart and all the welds fail because of terrible metal contact.
Never buy hollow gold. Please. Just don’t do it.
Within a few times you have to repair shitty hollow gold chain you will already spend almost enough to just buy the damn chain in real gold in the first place.
No one wants to do it. The shit melts instantly. The repaired joints are never good.
Hollow gold is terrible.
@eee Instead of using gold wire to make chain, they use gold tube. It's completely hollow inside so it weighs less.
When you see cheap gold chains (that aren't completely fake) they are always hollow gold.
Italy produces *A LOT* of it.
@eee Cut out 75% of the material. Sell it half price to cheap people. Gain 25% profit or something.
Cheap always end up buying stuff that can’t be maintained. That’s how you end up forever poor and surrounded by broken junk.
@NEETzsche @ArdainianRight @ChristiJunior @rasterman @Hoss They are the kid who will take a hammer to toy train rather than let another kid from the neighborhood drive it for 3 minutes.
Also, they previously stole that kid's bike, bashed in his mailbox, and lit a bag of dogshit on his doorstep after TikToking nude video of his mom through the bathroom window.
@Owl @Vril_Oreilly @narada @NEETzsche @Hoss > Even the Christmas spirit isn't in the air anymore.
My fellow feral humans (small business owners) are mostly reporting cratering sales and traffic. Even the weather is working against the season spirit.
Running into people left and right being dropped from healthcare and other programs for reasons that are straight up lies with no recourse.
Does seem like a lot of unpleasant things coming.
@mk @graf @Moon @jeffcliff @Flick @ninapaley Glad you got it all sorted. I always feel weird passing messages between people in screen caps.
It doesn’t look like much, but this changed my life.
The first gem I ever faceted. It cost me time, talent, and treasure to travel and learn to cut it.
It introduced me to my mentor, the youngest pupil of one of the 20th century’s best cutters. Came out of retirement to train me when all other students abandoned the craft. I was the last one taught and the one who inherited the equipment.
I hope one day my daughter understands what’s in her ring. It’s the start of everything we have and do.

@p @Humpleupagus @PonyPanda @graf @LaylaAlexandrovna She could have broken your hips.
@Humpleupagus @Awoo @ArdainianRight @MeBigbrain @condret That’s usually more of an IT thing.
Though Tandy Co. was infamous for trying to claim rights to anything you invent within 10 years termination of your employment. Even if you were a retail worker at Radio Shack or Tandy Leather.
No idea whether they ever managed to enforce that. My guess is no. Seems like something a judge would laugh out of court. Especially if the relationship was retail clerk.
@condret @Awoo @ArdainianRight @Humpleupagus @MeBigbrain If didn’t trust you to do the job they wouldn’t hire you in the first place.
It costs time and resources to find you. The first few months is training at cost to employer with reduced productivity.
If you are at a job worth having, it’s investing in making you productive person in hopes of getting benefit from your productivity.
When you quit or leave before becoming productive, they lose more than your pay. They lose investment in you.
@Humpleupagus @Awoo @ArdainianRight @MeBigbrain @condret Ask a commercial real estate how many clients empty their units and flee in the middle of the night, never to pay out the rest of their “ironclad” lease.
Ask how many they litigate?
Unless you still owe $50,000+ on the lease no one will chase you. It’s too expensive, and if you are running from your business it’s because you have no money anyway.
This is why they investigate and refuse clients with shaky business ideas or no exp.
@Humpleupagus @Awoo @ArdainianRight @MeBigbrain @condret This is why 97% of the words in a contract is “who am I, who are you, what the fuck are we doing?”
Penalty we agree on if we don’t do what we say we would do is a very small part.
@Humpleupagus @Awoo @ArdainianRight @MeBigbrain @condret Been in the middle of some inventory consignments. You can write whatever penalties you want into a contract, but good luck enforcing them all. And it’s going to cost you a lot to do it, in terms of time and money, and therefore opportunity.
No one on either side wants to enter an agreement with someone they can’t trust to honor it.
The root problem I see is selfishness. People aren’t think about the other party.
