@dalias @VeilidNetwork ooh. Can't wait until the beta program opens up to new people again!

@chris in this particular case resetting the car infotainment worked. But I'm still curious about Anker alternatives!

Any suggestion for good #USBC cables? Have had one too many cable breakages with #Anker

@lanodan @Conan_Kudo yeah... ideally a build system has an extension mechanism. But I still maintain that #KISS should be a guiding principle. Whether meson might be *too* inflexible, maybe

But yeah on the RISC V issue the RISC V people themselves are ... causing unnecessary trouble with their weird defaults

I used to be keen on that architecture but now am souring on it. On that @Conan_Kudo was right several years ago 🫠

@Conan_Kudo for the 10% of the most complicated use cases maybe. But when something goes wrong with meson+pkgconfig the issue is obvious. With *Config.cmake... definitely not

It's Chef vs Ansible and Gradle vs Maven/Leiningen all over again

Hot take after an afternoon un-fsck-ing a #CMake project: `*Config.cmake` files are so much harder to debug than `*.pc` #PKGConfig files, so not only are you trying to make sense of a Turing complete project definition but all the transitive dependencies that happen to use CMake too

    I'm increasingly a #meson fan.

@freakazoid being a US tech hub probably is a factor? I'm reminded of all the billboards reflecting various tech fads.

More investment and more interconnection - BART is louder than the sister metro in DC, Caltrain station is not connected to BART but only to M, BART doesn't reach much of the peninsula (by design, thanks snooty local councils)

@clacke haha! With my previous name I was often mistaken for (and sometimes profiled), so I played it safe when naturalizing

    Hello @hachyderm !

    I'm moving here from #FLOSS social - I'm a long-time #Linux user (since 1998) and @fedora contributor, and recently became a @debian maintainer as well.

$dayjob is at #Meta which unfortunately causes additional friction with the old instance since #Threads launched; they pay me to contribute upstream and basically make Linux distros work better for us and for the community; can't complain there.

    I'm a #Midwest #USA transplant - originally from #Indonesia

Open Source Insomnia: What Keeps Us Up at Night
In this panel and facilitated discussion, we’ll gaze cautiously into the abyss and confront the realities and possibilities that keep us up at night. We’ll share our concerns and fears together, shine a little light for one another to help us on our journeys, and carry forward having named the beasts that haunt us. We may not be able to solve all that ails us in this session, but through naming them and creating shared understanding, we hope that our communities of practice will be better prepared to support one another. Flashlights, spooky stories, and actual insomnia are optional.

@JamesGleick the charitable view is Isaacson had to do this to maintain access, and at least that's how we get juicy tidbits like this.

The uncharitable view is... he sold out.

Really, really impressed that replying to a @pixelfed post with images from @Mastodon works fine - and the images show fine on the official app, even though from #Pixelfed itself replies can't have images!

And that edits show up too. #OpenStandards based federation FTW!
