@tek Having gotten ceaselessly annoyed with Notes as a journal (and my hacky Shortcuts to make it more tolerable), I'm looking at Drafts. Which, unlike many other options includes sync via icloud by default and even has a default installed action for appending to a file in icloud drive (that is, aside from copying off of icloud drive, my "can I back this up under my control" requirement is easily met).

@tek Same absurdity as worrying about plastic waste in medicine generally but meanwhile we have ubiquitous consumption of apple sauce and yogurt from single serving containers made of multilayer plastics.

@tek this is basically how my partner shuts down me being impossible about food decisions. Not spagetti usually but like whatver we have fried rice or bean and cheese burritos. very effective. worst case is I actually eat.

Someone on blueksy intuits it probably came from "jackassery" which I've definitely used. But also "jackasshole".

I suppose the battery product usage is trademarked maybe?Eh. I like how out it sounds. Perhaps I'll work out a similar wordlike thing that has no overlap.

I've been saying "jackery" to refer to people, esp. in politics or media, expressing odious views (or somewhat less odious ones expressed in a condescending way). Ex. See an annoying screenshot going around: "What a jackery!"

I used it again this morning and was like "where did I get this?!". Turns out: not in etymonline. I did find a use (spelled that way) via web search for a battery product just now.

So I guess I made it up? Some derivative of jerk that's form suggests it's both a fundamental attribute of a person's personality but one that diminishes them?

Anyway I like it and shall continue using it. Try it in a sentence today! ;)

@kingrat Yeah when poetry came out I like it a lot. Our team has moved over to pdm mostly but just hit a blocking bug (see other replies) that the only way to workaround is rip out pdm or downgrade python to 3.12.6 (from 3.12.7).

@inthehands We have a bunch of cargo bikes -- my retires mom has a big front box trike, partner has a pakster (front box) and we had to just give up and got a shed just for bikes (we don't have a garage.) The storage issues with ebikes are real and since they are often pricy bikes few are going to want to lock up outdoors (even if there is a place to). A lot of apartment buildings have car parking but not bike, etc. It is a real challenge. Thank you for sharing yours.

@inthehands @michael_w_busch @GottaLaff As frequently pointed out, there are more conservative and republican voters in California than anywhere but Texas -- and more liberal & democratic voters in Texas than anywhere but California. And none of those voters get any real vote or is there a need for candidates to appeal to those voters.

@inthehands probably would depend on language and the common conventions of that language community which, uh, maybe not great.

I read some social media this morning about national politics which made me mad. Instead of tooting the details I'm going to write some local elected officials about issues that matter and that they can do something about.

I must admit I just listened to most of AOC's insta live (https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9l41vgOAGj/) -- wish there was a transcript I could link instead -- but as someone who spent like 20
hours a week of my life in the last couple months of the 2016 election volunteering for the Clinton campaign (while holding a full time startup job!), it is fucking depressing watching the utter lack of realism the elite powerful types seem to have about how process and door knocking and enthusiasm works.

Also AOC is very good at communicating in a way that doesn't come off as over confident but also still assertive and value oriented.

In the U.S. and want to make it less likely that authoritarians will take even more power? Here are ways to help:

Pocket having its in-app share link wrap with their url annoys me. So what alternate link saving options are there that:

- work on iOS and Mac (and ideally sync between them)
- let me import / export history
- ideally cache a copy
- support a "reader" mode so it strips out ads and irrelevant to content sections
- isn't tracking me or using my data

I feel this road is going to end with self-hosting. 😂
