@isaackuo@bmacDonald94 - Their local bishop is in direct vertical relation to them, the Pope is two steps away. Is the bishop racist, or just tactically following instead of leading? - They've got 50 years of practice at selectively listening to the Pope since Vatican 2 and the Latin Mass controversy. - Many are de facto evangelical white nationalists with legacy cultural ties to a catholic parish, so the theological contradiction of ignoring the Pope doesn't trouble them.
often it's tax accounting, iirc? (unintended consequences of depreciation of assets vs expensing of minor CAPEX, it's easier to destroy it than to find a buyer who'll pay a nominal value, establishing value below depreciated value carried on books, to enable immediate write-down)
@TerryHancock@mattl@cstross Probably still healthier than the pre-bottled Protein Shakes people on weight-loss or muscle-building diets are buying (but today they'd call it a Liver-Spinach Smoothie).
The Mother Theresa that Rev Shuma's mother knew was caring for the poor; she didn't see the rumored dark depths that we now hear about. An ideal, not a real person.
As I said, an interesting, unique personal synthesis. (It must be over 20 years since Rev Shuma was at 1st Parish here. How time flies.)
The UU congregation I was actually part of never was very organized, contrary to stereotype.
The 1st Par. where Rev Shuma was for a year had some organization (precariously) but her personal synthesis was entirely solo, so I could enjoy the cross-connections she drew between traditions, as a frequent visitor.
@MyWoolyMastadon@bmacDonald94@deepmud Yes. UU is a very big tent, non-credal. With variation within a congregation, between congregations, and between regions. Ranging from full Atheist to Christian just without dogmatic trinitarianchristology, with pockets of Eastern mysteries, neopagan/earthmother, neosynctretic, ... . (A fun preacher here was her own neosyncrethesis: her uncle was an Ashram Guru, her mother a patron of Mother Theresa, and she a grad of Harvard Divinity as UU. )
FedEx is likely the branding of the retail copy shop 🖨 that produced the poster sized print 📈 on demand. Express shipping 📦outlets and copy shop 🖨outlets share retail space frequently. Or both in a corner of an office 🖇 supply shop. Synergy not unlike embedding an ice-cream🍦 franchise in a sandwich 🥪 shop.
