@LeaBug "The reaction is a signal for us to pause, adapt and learn so that our future approach to these moments balances celebration, inclusivity and broad-based appeal," Christina Hennington, Target's chief growth officer, told analysts in August...so throw LGBT people under the bus as usual. I am never delusional enough to think that any mass marketing campaign is ever anymore than a money grab for a market. It's still disappointing they caved as they usually do.
@tchambers@shoq@evan If someone on the fediverse likes or responds to a post that federated over to their server do those interactions make it back to threads? Or does even that not happen so it is just a one way data flow right now?
@carnage4life@goatsarah I'm watching some snippets of the latest quarterly earnings call and apparently mid-sentence Musk switched from calling it "full self driving" to "supervised full self driving". Something is up...maybe the sting of that lawsuit they just settled or maybe more. TBD.
@carnage4life@goatsarah Agreed that people need to understand the limitations of things. But Musk didn't just have them call it "autopilot" or "driver assist" they had them call it "full self driving". He also put out BS videos of the cars supposedly driving themselves. I know a few Tesla owners that basically just put it in FSD mode and then browse the internet, read their phones, etc. in rush hour traffic. These are people that should know better too. They bought into the whole Tesla BS campaign on this feature. It's sort of like the friend that insists that they are actually a better driver when they are drunk because they pay attention more. Maddening. But at least the alcohol companies weren't pitching that mentality as a feature of their products.
@goatsarah Fascinating history of those times and how scrappy everything was. Although I was an Apple not Commodore user back then I still read all of Brian Bagnall's books on the soup to nuts history of the company and its products.
@goatsarah My first programming experience ever was 6502 as well, BASIC not assembly though. I never got too fancy with the graphics or memory requirements. Even my first structured programming on the Mac and PC using Pascal and then C were small enough programs to make worrying about all that memory segmentation stuff on either platform, albeit far less complicated on 1980s Mac. As I think of trying retro computing challenges I may end up experiencing it eventually.
@sophie I've already seen places where people are like, "I wasn't sure about this medical topic so I asked ChatGPT and it surprisingly knew the answer." My response, "It gave you an answer. Did you confirm the answer was correct?" This is worse than blindingly taking the first answer from Stackoverflow without checking if it is right or makes any sense. It'd be like blindly taking the first web search result in the early web when some random quack site could come up as a top result.
