@osnews I fire this up on my physical Apple //c as well as in VMs to use it as a file manager environment of sorts. It's amazing how much they can squeeze out of that old hardware. It would have been cool if they had implemented an API layer so that apps could have used it for their UI layer like what GEOS did. #RetroComputing #Apple #Apple2 #Apple2Forever -

@darnell I have moments of reservation when I get on a Boeing plane at this point. I can't imagine trusting my life with them getting me into space. Then again I think people are way too optimistic about the reliability of all manned spacecraft systems we've ever built, yes including the SpaceX capsule. Invariably we get into a sense of complacency until someone dies or nearly dies. -

@carnage4life @goatsarah I'm watching some snippets of the latest quarterly earnings call and apparently mid-sentence Musk switched from calling it "full self driving" to "supervised full self driving". Something is up...maybe the sting of that lawsuit they just settled or maybe more. TBD. -

@carnage4life @goatsarah Agreed that people need to understand the limitations of things. But Musk didn't just have them call it "autopilot" or "driver assist" they had them call it "full self driving". He also put out BS videos of the cars supposedly driving themselves. I know a few Tesla owners that basically just put it in FSD mode and then browse the internet, read their phones, etc. in rush hour traffic. These are people that should know better too. They bought into the whole Tesla BS campaign on this feature. It's sort of like the friend that insists that they are actually a better driver when they are drunk because they pay attention more. Maddening. But at least the alcohol companies weren't pitching that mentality as a feature of their products. -

The comments on a video about solutions to solving political divide in FOSS includes scolding him about acknowledging that LGBT people do actually exists is being political really highlights where the problem lies and it isn’t with the openly LGBT members and their supporters. Nor is the solution buying into the “apolitical” solution of erasing the open existence of minorities either. Fuck that noise. #foss #OpenSource #lgbt #politics -

@goatsarah My first programming experience ever was 6502 as well, BASIC not assembly though. I never got too fancy with the graphics or memory requirements. Even my first structured programming on the Mac and PC using Pascal and then C were small enough programs to make worrying about all that memory segmentation
stuff on either platform, albeit far less complicated on 1980s Mac. As I think of trying retro computing challenges I may end up experiencing it eventually. -

My first apps pushing real memory requirements, "hundreds of KB to MB", were on Unix systems. The second was Windows 95. The peculiarities of PC memory issues were just running config tools to get Tie Fighter running.
