@lina @PurpCat nor was there a overtly political figure to be the lighting rod. This is inevitable conclusion to businesses taking the advice from Louis Powell in the Powell Memo that business should no longer sit on the sidelines of politics but impose their will onto the democratic institutions.

Costco is in general a good corporate citizen but beyond that is politically neutral. Musk has been a right-wing internet troll and now is a high ranking official in the administration.

@lina the property damage/vandalism at Tesla retail locations, there have been inviduals who have sold their Teslas, and Teslas have seen a dive in sales compared to '24 January & February.

There is even a massive conspiracy in Canada that the company defrauded the Canadian government of millions of dollars by faking sales of tens of thousands of vehicles that never were sold because people just aren't buying them. Maybe Telsa did sell 10,000 cars at 4 locations in under 72 hours, who knows

I once had a back and forth about moderation being bespoke by means of DIY and one of those whiners stated "it shouldn't be my job to moderate my feed". What I thought was a feature he thought was a bug that made Mastodon useless.

FB, IG, xitter all commandeer our attention with no ability to control our own feed, if one wants that then they can keep it, but I like the ability to tweak my feed within a inch of its life or just accept less than perfectly cultivated feed.

For my fellow #Americans I recommend you vote with a spam/throwaway email but that's just what I did.

Should your state join Canada as a new Canadian province? I think so, the votes should be calculated per capita instead of the absolute number. Being from #Connecticut, I think we would be a great addition to #Canada, transfer of Groton nuclear submarine base stsys within #NATO comes with Electric Boat, Sirkosky, and net contributor to the Canadian federal government

Vote to have your state join Canada!
So, we heard a rumor that someone’s planning to annex Canada, eh? Well, two can play at that game! Why add a 51st state, when you can join Canada, eh?

@lawfare only those countries are trying to influence the US government? Really? Egypt isn't trying to influence US policies, then why did they buy Bob Menendez? Armenia isn't trying to influence the US, then why did they buy Henry Cuellar? Turkey is just buying Eric Adams for gits & shiggles? Oh yeah, Cori Bush and Jamal Bowman criticized the Israeli gov't and they were targeted, but not brazen antisemites who are copacetic with Isreali war-making.

There's more nations than not influencing

@Lana have an entire career with a natural progression from one defunct employer to another defunct employer Bradlees' associate to CompUSA shift manger to Circuit City store manager to Sports' Authority regional manager to Pier 1 district manager to Century 21 corporate buyer. Any further up the corporate ladder might be corroberated and then you would be found out.

I was under the assumption that Dem-leaning voters would either sit out or vote third party. I voted for HRC knowing she could lose and received the toxic behavior from VBNMW. I live in CT and so won't be swinging my state's ECVs by voting for 3rd party, will still get the same abrasive treatment for being a crypto-Trump supporter as I did when I voted for the Dem nom in '16 as I get for voting for the Greens.

    Lesson needed to be learnt:
More flies w/ honey than vinegar

I don't think that the toxicity drives anyone to be conservative, but may throw their hands up and give up on everything.

I agree with you that there should be tolerance for nuance, since reflexive abrasiveness is very off-putting and counter productive if we need as many people as possible to win elections.

    @uspolitics
He's not funding lobbyists, consultants, and political organizations to affect change that he's saying he's in favor of. In fact the Melinda And Gates foundation has been instrumental in privatization of public schools and was the entity that clawed back the covid vaccine developed at Oxford University that went from patent-free to become intellectual property of Aztra-Zeneca.

Elon Musk also claimed that he'd pay $9 billion to solve world hunger then 6 month later bought Twitter

@uspolitics the billionaires could be a force for good in the world, nothing but themselves hold them back from delivering on their philanthropy yet what occurs is their wealth continue to be ever more concentrated and their crocodile tears about how they are really in favor of making the world better but gosh gee they just can't seem to stop making billions while the world degrades from their decisions.

They could do something, they choose not to.

At MattMerk at mastodon.social @Joe_Hill @davidaugust @feld I'm not a Maher apologist in the slightest, I pointed out that he has been intellectually dishonest about how others on the left have changed while he instead has become vocally more conservative.

Maher claims to be a progressive who has had the rest of the movement go too far, but in '16 endorsed Sanders and in '20 endorsed Klobuchar despite the fact that Sanders hasn't really moved politically in 4 years. Maher's not so much a conservative or liberal just a contrarian who wants to be counterproductive turdgurgler.
