They'll do it too—Ben Gvir got the weapons for his brownshirt militia, so from his perspective if Netanyahu can't deliver a dictatorship or at least a successful genocide, he might no longer be needed.

@Sherifazuhur that is certainly true. I wouldn't underestimate how much a man like Netanyahu is simply a criminal using fascist incitement to cling to power, and how much he is a true believer.

Historically those things go together anyway, and wherever he is on the spectrum of evil between pure corruption and pure hate, I think, he and his actions are reprehensible enough. Certainly for him Never Again never meant anyone but the Jews.

@Sherifazuhur I was actually just having this very debate with my Rabbi, and given Netanyahu's roots in Revisionist Zionism and the Iron Wall, now that you're bringing me back to this post I'm getting more inclined to think that you're right and it's really not appropriate to dismiss as just corruption. @MisuseCase I think that it would be more accurate to say that attacking Rafah is part of the effort to destroy the possibility of a deal. If this war ends too soon, before the "legal coup" can go through, Netanyahu is likely to face early elections... And as far as I know, he's still at risk of going to prison for corruption if he ever loses the prime minister's seat @Sherifazuhur @bmacDonald94

The question that I was asking myself was what is different about the internet today from the internet in the late 90s or early 2000s during the heyday of web rings, and I also asked myself what kind of technologies do we have to update those things in a way that compliments and mitigates the ways that the internet is different today. I'm not a big expert at this kind of design thinking but I wanted to try

@SkipHuffman @inthehands @CptSuperlative is difference between the internet then and now is that the Internet is just a lot bigger and much more diverse so we need tools that will both be able to express the exponentially higher amount of relationship between different nodes and also be easier to use and be more automated. Thinking about how we can harness algorithms and automation and scalable systems for the benefit of humans rather than business is important

For blogs and other websites, using some kind of combination of tags, pingbacks, and algorithms to generate recommendations and related links. One of the things I miss the most about the old timey web is the feeling of "surfing"—not just getting a stream of content from a central feed, but chains of association. I still get it from Wikipedia, and that's it

@tokyo_0 @andregasser @soapdog yeah I was just reviewing it and indeed it's a client library for the Mastodon API, which isn't what I'm looking for, because my wheelhouse is in the back end. But I'm learning as much as I can, and there is a lot to do even outside of ActivityPub integration, which in my project will be a separate set of services from the MVC layers I'm focusing on first. My main concern wrt AP rn is to learn as much as I can, and not make the integration difficult later...

The point where regular union folks are uncritically sharing threads with takes like the IDF killed most Israeli civilians on Oct 7, is where it may no longer be possible to avoid a total breakdown between the #Left and #Jewish people. Not because there aren't leftist Jews (many), Jews in solidarity with Palestinians (many), but because it's a sign that antisemitic conspiracy narratives have become endemic in the Left.

Which is a shame, because actually we really need each other. Nu nu.
