@killyourfm I’ve been doing this for a handful of years and haven’t regretted it.

Right now I’m using Cloudron on a Linode. Cloudron is a management dashboard with an app store. It handles updates, SSL cert, DNS, backups, and more. It makes it much easier.

I’ve gone through a migration from one server to another and the backup made the whole process a cinch. I basically told the new Cloudron install where my backup was and it restored everything, pointed my domains to the new server, etc.

When you meet a celebrity, ask them if they mind you taking a selfie.

When they say yes, take out your phone and just take a photo of yourself without them even close to being in frame.

Why is Time Machine incapable of deleting old backups to make room for new backups? Isn’t that supposed to just happen by default without any intervention?

Time Machine was introduced 17 years ago.

I’m curious, do you plan to stick with stock firmware or are you going to install Rockbox?

@killyourfm many of the people that are interested in the Switch 2 don’t have that context, though. It makes me feel old, but people in their 20s were born during the GameCube era when the GameCube was like $99 all day at Walmart, brand new games were like $50, and you could regularly get older titles for around $20.

And even for people born before that, much of our expectations of what consoles and games cost is based on the past 20 years where things have been relatively stable.

Seems like the prevailing narritive around the Switch 2 is “everything’s too expensive”. That was my reaction right out of the gate when I saw the price of the console — before I even saw the price increase on games. And it seems many people are in agreement with me.

You can write your own fanfiction about why the prices have increased, but Nintendo hasn’t done a good job justifying it.

The Donkey Kong game is the only thing that piqued my interest in the Switch 2 Direct.

And that’s not enough for me to buy a new console.

I’ll probably end up with a Switch 2 at some point, though. Maybe after a price drop and a bunch of interesting titles are released.

@fulner I thought about that afterward. I wouldn’t want it to become a way for the federal government to push certain ideologies. There would have to be safeguards in place to prevent the money being tied to certain types of curriculum. I’m not sure how that could be done, though.

@wulfhart @fulner what do you think about voucher systems where state education funding can move with the student? So each child gets a voucher in the state that can be used to fund their local public school or can be used to cover the cost of a private school of the parents’ choice?

@wulfhart @fulner why would you consider federal funds to home schoolers a welfare program, but choosing to send your child to a charter school using state funds isn’t?
