Here’s to my beloved iPod Classic, lost to the ocean during a tough scramble on the Oregon Coast Trail (near pic 4 at Cape Meares, specifically.)
I miss you, damnit! Thank you for all the music 🎵🥹

@killyourfm
I had set one on my car dash way back in the day with a FM transmitter connected. Took a turn too quickly and had it fly out my open window on the interstate in the US.
How did the ocean claim this beauty?
@killyourfm Rest now in peace, O faithful iPod dear,
Let Ocean’s arms enfold you near.
Its creatures keep your songs in grace,
Through coral halls and sandy space.
With tide and wave your music flows,
Where time dissolves and no one knows.
@neffscape Beautiful...
@mortalglitch Oh no, what a dramatic way to lose it!
My story is that I had to round a small headland when it wasn't low tide, so I ended up climbing and scrambling over it. Some rogue driftwood branches snagged my pack, and when I got to the other side, I realized my iPod was gone.
I took off my pack to more easily climb back, and also noticed my water bottle was gone. Found it -- punctured. But the iPod was nowhere to be seen. Most likely washed out with a big wave...
@killyourfm I'm deeply sorry for your loss, Jason. However now that you've become obsessed with extreme hiking (don’t you write about tech anymore?), you’ve got no more excuses: come by my area (no cliffs to lose your iPod off here!). I think walking until your kneecaps fall off is pretty much the most popular sport around here. There are some crazy folks who take on this kind of event every year and this one actually takes place right in the little town where I live: https://scenictrail.ch/en/
@neffscape I honestly don't know if I'm writing about tech anymore. The grind and daily news cycle makes me crazy. I'm strongly considering diving headfirst into producing a hiking video channel.
I'll check out this trail, thanks for the recommendation! I have a few international hikes on my bucket list, and it can't hurt to add another one.
