I’m so fed up with the #WASP take on how fucking wonderful and amazing the fediverse is. Dreamy talk of how “sure, things could be better, but I LOVE it here” does NOTHING to ACTUALLY make ANYTHING better for folks who are ethnic and/or religious minorities. 😑

It’s not enough to simply block bigots. I’m tired of folks telling me to just do that, as if that makes the problem go away. Would you close your eyes when you’re under attack, and pretend that the attack has stopped?

Telling a #minority to block their online attackers is no different. Stop telling us to ignore our attackers.

All other forms of bigotry get handled here in the #fediverse. Start handling #islamophobia the same way.

Minorities get chased off larger servers because of it. Moderation is no better in the fediverse than it was on Twitter. Not for minorities, anyways. We’re subjected to more abuse in many ways, thanks to decentralised servers and cowboy-style moderation.
