Oh we’ve got flowers!

Stopped in to #Area51 our allotment / community garden plot. Garlic and daffodils and chives are up. Black current buds are big and I found a mantis ootheca. Mostly what I see is a lot of work!

Meteorological spring it is! We have a bloom!

My theory is planning and preparing in advance is becoming a lost art. When you have the vast resources of human knowledge at your fingertips—literally—why waste time thinking ahead? You can solve any problem or issue at the touch of a button, as it arises. You never need to really think about it. Until you do. Bringing the calculator is not the same as knowing how to use the calculator.

Same reason expertise is devalued. I can just look it up or watch a you tube video. Why do I need a plumber?
And for many things, sure! That’s great! Until it isn’t. And understanding where that line is, where you need to learn and master more or seek expertise, that’s hard or even missing now.

Spouse gave test in the college class they teach and had people come up during the exam and ask how to do problems on their calculator. They’ve been doing practice problems for weeks. Have had homework. Have access to three different free tutoring/ help centers. They knew how to do the problems, but didn’t know how to use their calculator. 1/n

Fish commandeered the leftover leis from the camping trip and has been sleeping on them for the last few days. Went into my office this morning to find him trying one on. Yellow looks good on you buddy!

This is Sprite, a northern saw whet owl who lived at Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education and was a right little feisty jerk. An eight inch terror, but a very Superb Owl.

In utterly unimportant news: youngest has joined the prom planning committee. Came home and said this bit of wisdom: “I didn’t realized that it’s more about trying to stop ideas that are terrible than advocating for ones that are good!”

Welcome to basically any kind of governance by committee my love.

Also, if you engage in malicious compliance, do not talk about this at all, to anyone. Don't keep notes, don't brag, do not come here and discuss it. Your only protection is complete deniability. If appearing incompetent protects you, do that. Above all, understand the consequences. It's a brave lonely path that not all can walk.

Years ago I mistyped my name into some online form. It’s never not funny to me when I get a new email with the subject “Hello <misspelled name>” and realize that address list is still generating income for someone.

Every night my kitten brings up all her toys to our bedroom before she goes to sleep. The last one is a mouse on a string tied to a long stick. We hear thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk, squeak thunk, kitten chittering, thunk, thunk, squeak, thunk. Then she settles down with a little kitten sigh and goes to sleep.
It could be annoying, but somehow her determination to make her would how she wants it is very cute.

I only know this from Jane Austen novels- when I couple wanted to marry in England the intention, called the banns, was read in church on three consecutive weeks. If no one objected, after the fourth week, the marriage could take place.
