@skinnylatte is it just impossible to find a contractor & zoning permission is hard? Who can spend that kind of money and time except someone doing it for an “investment.”

When the big hickory came down a few months ago, one casualty was my Aralia spinosa. Was knocked totally over and trying to pull it back upright seemed to be causing more damage. They have hardy roots so I hoped for the best. Surprisingly, it leafed out and while it’s never spread in the 20 years I’ve had it, the light gap from the hickory and the damage seems to have spurred it to spread. Now have four other specimens coming up!

Everything Mastodon has said about #Wales is true: filled with seabirds, stunning coastline, mountain lakes and noble sheep.

Visiting a friend who is a senior curator at the Natural History Museum, London. Got a behind the scenes tour to see the Oh My! Insects and cicadas of course.

I have two nice bird baths and several glass pie dishes from the swap shop I put out for the birds and wildlife when it’s hot. But they like the driveway puddle best. Have watched a pair of blue birds, a pair of cardinals and a cat bird take a bath in the puddle to cool down. Birds don’t sweat so evaporative cooling only works if they get wet first.

My concerns about plastic contamination in the free compost were justified.

Why I get so little done in the garden. It’s full of birds I don’t want to disturb. Also the house wren, ruby throated humming bird and red bellied woodpecker stopped in.

Have been informed middle offspring will be attending an Archeologists Ball. Where in London (UK) can one go to find affordable thrifted formalwear?

@GPJohnston scared the daylights out of me. This is right outside my kitchen window and I hadn’t seen it come in. Just looked up and there it was! Managed to back out and get back with the good camera for three shots before it took off.

@ai6yr @ColesStreetPothole @GPJohnston for a small raptor they are still pretty big. Really glad we don’t still have moa or elephant birds around. The birds we have left are pretty terrifying.

@ai6yr @ATLeagle I’ve done that and also driven a screw through it. More for spite than as an actual solid fix. But it seems to hold.
