A collection of light purple and black speckled beans scattered on a wooden surface, accompanied by dried, opened bean pods. The beans are large, some 2.5 cm in length and a plump kidney shape. Some are more lavender colored and the dark specked parks almost a dark navy blue. When growing, the bean plants are a climbing vine with bright green leaves and brilliant orange-red flowers beloved by bees and hummingbirds. The bean flowers, pods and seeds are edible, though pods are better when small and beans must be throughly cooked to break down potentially toxic proteins found in most beans.
