This also I think speaks to a problem women have of needing to be peace makers and perceived as nice. That’s a survival tactic, but needs context and nuance. My child took me to task for being rude to someone in public and I had to explain that their actions did not justify civility on my part and it was a disservice to others not to call them to account. Yes, being nice would be the easier, safer path. But not the right one.

Gave up alcohol many months ago for no real reason except to cut calories. Considering restarting this week for, oh, no reason.

The frost got everything at #Area51, but the home garden still chugs along. It will be in the 70’s all next week but very very dry. Zinnias, dahlias, caster bean still lovely and Texas star hibiscus about to finally get its first bloom in under the wire!

Apparently now old enough to remember history others seem to have forgotten re: Nazis Are Bad; Vaccinations are Good; nothing good ever trickles down; most Regulation is good actually; wars are bad, mostly; being Kind isn’t that hard.

How exactly do I get this six foot spiny Euphoria milli into its new pot? Asking for actual advice. We’ve had it ten years and was in MIL’s house for unknown years before, afaik, never been repotted. I’ve tried loosening it, but it’s not budging. Very tippy pot. Thought this would be straightforward, but nope.

Connecticut is a tiny state with extreme contrasts. Economic inequity yes, but also a sharp rural urban divide. Climate resilience efforts tend to focus on the vulnerable coast and urban areas, but more intense storms are impacting our forest-dense rural areas too, causing power outages from downed trees, culvert collapse, and threatening damn safety. Thinking now about how to provide support to these communities that may lack capacity to plan for climate change.

So I’m working the early voting primary election later today. CT just started having early voting this year. In many towns, Democrats are running unopposed in the primary so this is effectively only for Republicans. And, as far as I can tell, no presidential candidates are on the ballot. It’s weird. Will need to find out more.

Guessing turnout will be low. Like, single digits low. Will we break ten today?

So, I got sent home since turnout is so light. Between yesterday and today, only 7 Republicans have turned up. Interestingly, three Democrats saw the Vote Today sign and came in and were very sad they couldn’t vote (Dems are uncontested in state level races).

Now the contest is to see if more Dems wander in than Repubs over the rest of the early voting period!

Also, we did have the presidential primary in April (and I worked it!) today was just contested state primary races.

Registrar said they mailed post cards to all registered Repubs in town letting them know about early voting, so folks were notified and polls open 8 am till 8pm. We are slow to embrace change here in rural New England.

Thanks to @colinpurrington for showing me how to train summer squashes up a tomato stake. Works a treat! Easy to pick off bugs, can trim off lower leaves to lessen fungal problems and easy to pick. Even showed my neighbor this morning so passing it on already.

Mendel had his peas, I’ve got Nigella damascena. Far more pinks and whites last year. This year dominated by blues.

Even car wash decked out for #pride

So got a state court jury summons today. For, you guessed it, the Wednesday of my vacation in August. Luckily, CT makes it easy to defer (once, no questions asked) snd pick your new date so I picked Nov. 5, Election Day in the US. Now I can work the polls for early voting and have a nice excuse not to be there on chaos day itself.
