@EUCommission how bizarre to be promoting a random VC-funded social network when you've barely put the same effort into promoting Mastodon. This has a shady feeling to it.
Not sure whether to post this since it could get me fired, but I'm beyond disgusted by this post on Linkedin. A few days ago a Dutch top civil servant happily posted about visiting DOGE in the US.
At a time where I can't visit the UN Open Source Week in NY due to safety concerns, we're supporting a regime that is hollowing out democracy, actively committing imperialist war crimes and harming their own population. This is so distasteful. Glad @bert_hubert called it out as well.
I'll start with the #opensource strategy and EU tech sovereignty package, and good things happening and alternatives being build etc.
Then mention how the mobile ecosystem is one of the last frontiers left critically assessed.
I'll share how Google is closing down Android (input welcome!). :android:
And that we need to promote, fund, regulate and perhaps even build open (EU) alternatives in the mobile ecosystem if we don't want to increasingly become captured by 2 US big tech companies.
🚨 Say that I were to give a talk to EU policy makers and OSS communities at a very big conference tomorrow..
and that I want to spend half of my talk on how Google is locking down #Android through: 1. Device attestation 2. Developer registration 3. Age/identity verification
What should I absolutely include? 👀
Input is welcome, sorry for the short notice. Plain language + realistic calls to action pls.
The @EUCommission presented the EU Tech Sovereignty Package today WITH an Open Source Strategy! 🚀 These plans promote "European open alternatives to non-EU proprietary solutions in critical domains."
It's very encouraging that the EU is choosing #opensource. The EDIC Digital Commons is a great vehicle for for this. I'm also happy with the recognition for the national OSPO's and the official establishment of an EU OSPO network. 🇪🇺
There are so many initiatives within the Dutch gov to choose ethical tech, and then you find out about this..
The NL Wallet, the Dutch gov version of the identification service that's being build by all EU member states, will only be available for citizens with a Google or Apple account 🤦♀️
I thought we wanted to be less reliant on US Big Tech companies, not more. @MinisterieEZK
@tomstafford oh sorry it's a reference from a few years ago when literally everyone on the fediverse got the same message from 'Nicole the Fediverse chick :D'
We had our very first Codeplatform Community meetup today! 🥳
Users of https://code.overheid.nl came together today to discuss progress. We welcomed new participants, learned about Kadaster's Forgejo setup, and discussed what we'll be doing next.
I'm honoured to have been elected to the Board of Directors of @fdroidorg , the most well-known #opensource alternative to Google's Play Store. :fdroid:
Imagine Microsoft deciding from now on what you can install on your laptop. No internet, you can only download things through the MS app store. Apps that MS has approved. Who wouldn't find that suffocating? Yet that is what Google wants to do on our Android phones (and what Apple already has - a closed ecosystem).
Code.overheid.nl is a pilot in which we are going to test @forgejo; an open source and sovereign alternative to GitHub/GitLab.
This is an initiative of @BZKopensource, in collaboration with our friends from team DAWO (SSC-ICT), @opensource , @developer , and a number of participating government orgs. 🤝
