Apparently its #AdaLovelaceDay and so I will share a truly bizarre story. My partner worked for a while at a Children's #science center, Which only kind of taught kinds science, and most people viewed it as a place to dump their kids in spit of that being prohibited. It didn't stop them from trying or ignoring their kids while they were there.
Anyway, It was Halloween and staff were allowed to dress up like their favorite scientist. She decided to go as #AdaLovelace . Her boss asked her who she was supposed to be and she told him. His response in horror was "the porn star???". A) I feel like I need to look up the porn of this person especially if she dressed like that(pretty sure he was confusing her with another porn star), and B)Its really nice to learn what your coworkers think of you that you are the kind of person to dress up like a porn star around small children. -

Ok so more good news, on TOP of just learning that Colorado will have #rankedchoicevoting on its ballot this year and polled highly to pass easily, I just learned that Idaho will also have it on its ballot, on top of Nevada and Oregon. This could move the nation from 2 to 6 states with it pushing more states to adopt it.
This will really push the growth of 3rd parties with this many states where they actually have a chance of winning. -

@tillshadeisgone Yeah why there must be government regulation on things but end means testing. Free housing vouchers, food stamps for all, medicare for all, internet for all and higher learning for all. However government also needs to be on the other end so that people selling don't take advantage of the increased spending. -

@freemo @stux @threalist K, Nations are very different with different circumstances. You use or Ireland and Jamaica as examples are not even remotely comparable to the US. Homicide rates stayed steady after the ban in Australia from 1996 to 2002, and then dropped drastically. Austalia is a way closer comparator to the US than Ireland during the troubles. -

@freemo @stux @threalist K, I don't know or follow you, so the fact that you've posted things in the past is useless to me. Also the NRA has gotten the US government to completely ban any government research on this topic so there is a lot of muddy areas and police in the Us don't share their databases. We don't know because there is not proper scientific analysis because the data collection is purposely hamstrung. -

@freemo @stux @shuro Ireland was going through the troubles at the time, that's hardly a comparable state. Jamaica is also a developing nation. England would be interesting to know the data on if you can site it. Comparing a developing nation to a developed one in terms of gun violence is comparing apples to oranges. -

@freemo @stux @threalist I get if you are in another nation where violence is high, but Europe, certain parts o east Asia, and the US are the safest nations to live. Comparing it to a place where violent attacks happen often is not really comparable. i looked up home invasion stats in the US. 100 per year. That's 2 for each state. Most gun violence is caused by tempers from a disagreement. In a nation where you were, yes having a gun would probably make you safer. Here in the US it just increases your chances of committing suicide or your kid finding it and shooting themselves. -

@goatsarah @ajlanes Or you aren't paying attention to medical sexism. This whole post is pretty insulting to basically all cis women. Trans folks have it rough, the most abused and bullied people on the planet, but don't belittle another marginalized group as a joke, when doctors literally haven't taken them seriously since the beginning of the field and treat them like second class citizens with no autonomy over their bodies. -
