@ryanc this is just a clever way to ask "how old are you" and harvest all our information, isn't it

@whitequark okay the most obscure joke I know:
Two chemists walk into the bar
The first says, "I'll have a glass of H2O"
The second says, "I'll have a glass of the same"
The first could barely contain his rage, as his assassination attempt had failed

Excellent long-form description of something that's been trying to coalesce in my head for some time
Hence my attempt to get the internet to agree to coin a concise version of this as Datskovskiy's Law:
"Employers much prefer that workers be fungible, rather than maximally productive"

@jwildeboer @Linza I'd also point out something relevant to both cases by International Law expert Phillipe Sands sometime ago
There was an arrest warrant placed against Milošević during the war, which everyone saw as an empty gesture when it was issued
No one could possibly touch him. He'd just hide in his country for decades and evade justice
... until suddenly 4 years later, he was in the Hague
Fate is not kind to war criminals

@cassey and if you use a VPN, they pop up *even more* -- even though no one has shown bots use VPNs more than regular internet connections. They just "concentrate" activity into fewer IPs
So it's an implicit attack against ppl who want greater privacy too by making the web higher friction

@rysiek I would also reply to "the rich can just move elsewhere!"
Governments know this, and have an incentive to act collectively. Slowly but surely, they are:

@whitequark huh, TIL
A similar cognitohazard, at least to me (but maybe not to others):
"USB mass storage" is actually SCSI commands wrapped in USB packets

@lilli depending on the X, my autistic brain would be totally down with that in many moods

@inthehands fair enough, I was not trying to persuade as I know this is an uncertain thing
And as an autistic person, I was trying to tie both together as the opposite: "seen as debilitating by society, but just diff ways of the brain operating". Whether either is compatible with certain occupations and specific social roles is a diff question

@inthehands while the science is limited, I have a personal pet theory
The progression of dementia is similar to the experiences of many Autistic ppl, in terms of what fails and how other parts of the brain compensate
Therefore, I see anyone who punches Mitch for mental abilities -- rather than his greed, clinging to power, or beliefs -- is also punching a lot of ND people

Read the ToS of 8.8.8.8 and you may be quite surprised

@marcan this is why, for a while when I was starting out, my contribution to open source was not code
It was priming the pump on bugs: did you try this? Could you get this log? Here are the instructions if you don't know, etc
Thank you for endorsing what was often thankless work at the time

@0x4d6165 after hitting this, and despite some drawbacks
I have trained myself to do a lot of development in docker containers
I can't figure out the stack? "docker pull" it from someone who has
I have to do something screwy I know I'll never remember? A container never forgets.
It's got it issues, and I can't quite recommend it. Almost
But I will say it has avoided a lot of mess over several years now

@marcan @angelastella which I find interesting bc of the intersectionality, though slight
I'm a KDE user, and KDE is basically the only thing keeping me on X instead of Wayland
They have a goal to migrate, but it appears they'll be stuck with X for a while as they chew through a backlog
...and deal with new Wayland upstream breakage in the past couple weeks on a couple of the items:

@malwaretech the best answer I can give in the span of a masto message is to link to this famous video which answers the question (about 20 min, but worth your time)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agzNANfNlTs
E: "we assume conservatives defend the rich because they'll be rich some day. Sure, they'd love to be. But it's more nuanced than that: they believe the rest of us *need* the rich"
