This is very very not good --- RT @townhallcom Don Lemon: "Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime. Sorry, when a woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s, and 30s, and maybe 40s…"
Poppy Harlow: "Are you talking about prime for like child bearing?"
5/ "Worse still, the population is steadily becoming more vulnerable to infections of all types. We are in the middle of an alarming surge of diseases beyond just COVID: RSV, influenza, strep A, and many others are hospitalizing people in record numbers — opportunistic infections, handed the gift of a softened-up population of victims."
Imagine if hackers find out about throwing lots of GPU and CPU power to aggressively search the exploitable surface area of a program or try and crack passwords or something. And it might even learn about the program and look for weird novel paths through the code. Terrifying
Still astonished and excited by this interesting hypothesis: long COVID and other post-viral syndromes injure/inflame the tiniest bloods vessels, impairing the ability to oxygenate tissues, and forcing them into anaerobic respiration even when you are lying still. The resulting acid-base imbalance causes further damage https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2023.1150105/full
We now know that, unfortunately, COVID can damage the brain in many ways. When people first become sick from the virus, they may develop encephalitis — inflammation of the brain — causing confusion, difficulty concentrating, and memory problems. COVID also can trigger the onset of new psychological disorders such as severe depression or anxiety. It can even cause people to become psychotic.
? "When I use the term “worldbuilding fiction” I refer to immersive fiction, in any medium, in which an attempt is made to rationalise the fiction by exhaustive grounding, or by making it “logical in its own terms”, so that it becomes less an act of imagination than the literalisation of one." - from M. John Harrison in 2007 via @AugustBhttp://web.archive.org/web/20080410181840/http:/uzwi.wordpress.com/2007/01/27/very-afraid/
@rebeccawatson I feel you so hard. "You seem like a reasonable and nice person, so obviously you would agree that people sexually harassing women is bad! No? What?" Pretty brutal awakening
@seldo@mentallyalex@Pineywoozle@helplessduck@isaacs@UnFitz2@TazPoltorak arrrgh so envious of you people with built-in font-lock. I had a little synesthesia as a kid in which three words had an object associated with them, colored light blue, and I see light blue objects in my head when I do proofs. Other than that I just have some kind of subconscious parallel processing of all the words and numbers on the screen which is not nearly as fun
