My social media feed has been full of liberals insisting that Trump stole the 2024 election, and as proof they're pointing to a hacking "expert" named Stephen Spoonamore. I looked at Spoonamore's evidence & am sorry to say he's got nothing. https://skepchick.org/2024/11/stop-saying-trump-stole-the-2025-election/
We should have an entire preliminary election day in September. Like the PSATs. That way all the dumbfucks can cast their preliminary vote, then go google "how tariffs actually work," then read all the new articles about what Donald Trump's actual policies are, and THEN cast their real vote.
Before I return to making my usual videos about science and critical thinking, I needed to get some opinions off my chest about the 2024 US election, fascism, and what I, as a progressive, am planning to do next. The tl;dr: collective action. https://skepchick.org/2024/11/the-us-chose-fascism-where-do-we-go-from-here/
in-person voting is so fucking bonkers like I'm sorry you're rolling up to some elementary school & waiting in line for 2 hours with notes in hand about which city council member is best? thanks but I'll fill out my ballot at home with 85 open browser tabs like god intended
@Polychrome I mean yeah we use that for other stuff but sharing locations just gives so many other benefits. I can prep an entire dinner knowing when he’s coming home. he can feel good knowing that I’m not kidnapped. etc. like why would I not like it if my partner knows where I am
ppl are like “partners sharing location 24/7 is weird and invasive” and I’m like how else do I greet him at the door with a perfectly chilled martini and a dog dressed as winnie the pooh
It's been 50 years since the scientist who invented Retin-A was allowed to experiment on humans at Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia, testing dioxin, LSD, and other harmful substances without informed consent. Those victims are still seeking justice https://skepchick.org/2024/10/the-evil-scientist-who-experimented-on-prisoners/
AI has really changed my life for the better. It used to be that I'd Google something and then click a link to Wikipedia to learn more. Now I Google something and click a link and the entire Wikipedia page is highlighted for me, so I know that that's what I wanted to know
It's very funny* that my feed is full of people warning each other to not post pictures of their completed ballot because it's illegal in some states, and meanwhile a billionaire is literally paying people to vote for Donald Trump to avoid future regulation
Kamala plans to expand Medicare to provide affordable in-home care to seniors. I don't know how to ask this delicately: is anyone gonna show their aging parents the current costs & say that if they vote for Trump & he wins, they're getting pushed out on an iceberg?
Incredible that people still think Elon Musk is any kind of genius, evil or otherwise. He's just a charlatan. The Terminator dystopia at least got cool robots. In the dystopia Elon Musk is creating, there's no tech. No sci-fi. All the death & poverty, but boring.
A new study finds that the decline in India's vulture population (caused by a common painkiller's trademark expiring) led to an increase in all-cause mortality in humans. The same researcher found a decline in the bat pop led to more infant deaths https://skepchick.org/2024/10/how-bats-vultures-save-human-lives/
