@PatrickoftheG @ryanhoulihan Someone just came at me with the "purity test" bullshit after I mentioned how my spouse's long covid is the result of Biden's demand that schools reopen within 100 days of his inauguration, safe or not, and how countless people died because Biden said they don't have to wear masks anymore. Holding an elected representative accountable for mass death and disease is a "purity test" according to these fools.

@ryanhoulihan @amaditalks Apparently, in a democracy, there is one and only one option: Shut up and do what you're told.

@amaditalks @ryanhoulihan How do you know we're not going to get government action on covid? Can you predict the future? Doesn't it depend on what we the people do to put pressure on our elected representatives? And what do you mean by "the whole world is done with it"? Is the virus done with us?

1. Hold a primary election, as the Democrats did in 2012.

2. Acknowledge rather than ignore the ongoing pandemic, and make a sincere effort to fight it. Educate the public about long covid instead of pretending everything is fine. Apologize for saying things like, "If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask."

3. Stop supporting the genocide in Gaza.

@Njord "I wear a mask" strikes me as an individualized solution to a collective problem, like fighting climate change by riding a bike. A handful of people are still masking, but are they convincing a majority of others to do the same? Let's be honest: They aren't. We know this, because the situation hasn't changed for years. Individuals choosing to wear masks isn't making a dent in the pandemic. It isn't enough to make a difference. We need collective action to change policy.

I love the covid-aware community, but goddamn if I am not bored to tears from hearing about how few people y'all saw wearing masks at the grocery store.

It's been this way for years now. We know! We get it!

The question is, what are we doing about it?

For the record, I'm burned out after spending three years fighting for covid-safe schools.

I used public records to expose negligence on the part of school districts.

I appealed to countless others for help: school board members, administrators, colleagues, students' families, elected officials, OSHA, journalists and more.

No one helped.

What got results for my family was LEAVING in-person education and getting online teaching jobs.
