Because fuck you, that's why. We love the housing crisis and the money it brings us. We see the shit that is London over in the UK and think to ourselves, gosh why not inflict that on our peasants so that we can get richer?

I am innately suspicious of any site on Google that ranks higher than its Wikipedia page. If pay for that top spot, you aren't worth the top spot.

@FlashMobOfOne I do miss it a bunch. I also miss stores that would specialize in magazines. You would go in, and there'd be shelves and shelves of hundreds of them from every corner of the world and it was neat to find something to read.

All gone now sadly.

@FlashMobOfOne I don't know if I am misremembering the late 90s and early 2000s, but I remember them being much bigger and overflowing with oodles of content, even the bad ones.

It really wasn't like that.

Maclean's was anemic and terrible. Scientific American a shade of its former self. It was like a parody.

And that sinking realization when they arrived that they were mostly just 3:1 advertisements to articles.

That the letters people wrote were just as nonsense as message forum posts.

That we were paying to look at ads and that we would be better off just reading online with an adblocker on.

I still subscribe to Lapham's Quarterly though because I am pretentious.

There was a time about a decade ago, when myself and my lady finally had enough milk money to not be considered terrifyingly dirty poor, that we wanted to treat ourselves.

We're both readers and we both loved paper magazines. So we subscribed to a bunch of them that we used to like back when we were youthful library-going people.

The media and politicians do a very bad job of telling people that it's never, ever getting better and never will. That even if there were a magic djinn in a magic lamp and we immediately stopped polluting all at once this very second, that the *inertia* of what we've done already is guaranteed devastation.

And we haven't slowed down, let alone the magic solution.

@FlashMobOfOne I didn't know about this word. I imagine it works on a scale. It's not like I don't have fun or enjoy things, it's just that I don't seem to have as much fun or enjoyment as the people around me. Certainly not enough to understand things like that or even the urge to go to a concert or something.

I am low-key judgmental of the people who I see get dressed as their favourite characters and go to conventions and things. Not that I care about what you do for fun, I am happy that you're having fun, but how on Earth do you love or care about anything that much?

I just don't understand.

It seems so alien.

Thanks to all the construction and renovation going on in the hood I am strolling through, there have been many more portapotties than I usually see anywhere ever. My tiny little bladder has never been more thankful.

It blows my mind that it could be like this all the time, and everywhere. We just choose not to. If every neighborhood did this, it would not attract the homeless (and I'm sure that's why they don't do it).

But fuck that noise because homeless people deserve to shit and piss too.

And it doesn't matter if you live so far inland already that you are safe. Do you think your kids are going to have a good time competing for jobs against millions of displaced refugees? Not foreign refugees either, refugees from your own country?

Any housing plan that does not discuss what we are going to do with all the business, infrastructure, and homes that will 100% need to be evacuated from the coasts no matter what we do, really is just a bunch of politicians lying to you because they think* you are stupid.

@mpjgregoire They may have spoken Aramaic but they didn't write it down in Aramaic. A believer would owe it to themself to approach that, if they believed it was what they hope it is.

Certainly learning Arabic isn't too hard for the Muslims to all do.
