   @mpjgregoire They may have spoken Aramaic but they didn't write it down in Aramaic. A believer would owe it to themself to approach that, if they believed it was what they hope it is.

   Certainly learning Arabic isn't too hard for the Muslims to all do.

     Jesus didn't write down anything. It was some Jews in Alexandia who were writing Jesus fanfics, a hundred years after his death. Despite being the empire of Rome at the time, Greek was widely spoken in the first century AD, with Latin being the language of upper class Roman elites. Thus, the writers of the New Testament spoke Greek.

     I'll confess to being fond of Latin as a language, but I think that's mostly personal taste, and thus not really much of an argument in its favour. Maybe if I'd dedicated more time to Greek I'd prefer that...

     @mpjgregoire I don't understand why they waste their time on translated Latin when the Koine Greek is right there. I guess if they care more about aesthetic than substance?

     @PatrickoftheG Prayers, liturgies and readings in the vernacular are best for Catholics in general: it would be good for us all to read the Bible in Hebrew and Greek, but alas that's not feasible for most of us.

     The prime virtue of Latin is not that it's authentic to the Saviour (who would have mostly spoken Aramaic), but that it's universal across space and time for the Roman Catholic Church. Pre-1964, all Catholics could readily pray and sing together.
