Recently finished a PhD in cybersecurity, but quit academia right away. I just can't work there lol. I work in data by day, but Im a fulltime human rights activist and have spoken at various fora against digital dictatorship and BigTech's regulatory capture. I am a socialist and I have been for awhile now. I am working closely with various grassroot movement particularly within the digital rights/labour space.

I strongly encourage people to choose the right language for their toots.

Sometimes it is inevitable to forget about it but if you do your best to use it, you help to keep people timelines clean of messages that they can't understand (if they have setup the right config on their profiles). The translate option at least for me does not work most of the time and many people just don't bother and/or don't care.

The latest #toots on my #federated #timeline are from 17 hours ago. My home timeline's latest #toot is from one day ago and will not update. I know that #QOTO is going through an #update process and I appreciate the team are trying to resolve the matter as fast as possible.

I think we are forgetting that on Mastodon #hashtags are king.

Change practice; open or follow tabs based on hashtags searches & one can see all #toots that have it.

We had Stockholm syndrome by the likes of #twitter where we are made to do things a certain way.

Once you understand & use hashtags search becomes useful.

Expecting perfection from #mastodon is wishful thinking.

Toots having a #hashtag from allowed server can be found via search & follow.

Personally, I don't want my #toots to show up on #google searches or other #search engines, but if I post something relevant and someone wants to search it, they should be able to find it.

I love #3dprinting, and the only way to find content related to it is searching for the #hashtag, but not everyone uses it?

So should we normalize and enforce the usage of hashtags, or should we allow full-text-search?

If you don't use hashtags, you aren't part of searching? Actually, it is a good way to opt-in on a per-toot basis for searching.

for those who are new to #mastodon, there are groups from (at)a.gup.pe which can be mentioned and it is useful to find new people with same interest on specific topic.

groups will automatically boost your toots so that it reach further distance in #fediverse.

however, when you replying this kind of toot, please remove mentioning all those #groups. your short replies but containing all the group triggers will be boosted and perhaps your replies do not always need a boost.

these groups ideally shows clean boosted #toots. let's keep it that way.
