     At any rate, I keep getting annoyed when I have to look up a country code on Wikipedia, one of the simplest datasets and conspicuously missing from the awk/grep/sed/whatever-friendly files I keep around in ~/data and also missing from /lib on Plan 9, which still ships with a list of all US area codes, positions of the stars, Unicode tables, all kinds of useful references.
     
     Did you know that ISO wants 300 Swiss francs for their file full of "India is abbreviated 'IN' or 'IND', Ukraine is UKR or UA"? ISO-3166: https://www.iso.org/publication/PUB500001.html . So then you go get it from :glowinthedark: La Cia :cia: at https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/references/country-data-codes/ and it's an Excel-style CSV and you have to strip the \r and the stupid BOM because the CIA fuckin' loves Windows.
     
     So, here's a public service, here's this file, it is tab-separated, no header, columns are two-letter ISO-3166 abbreviation, three-letter ISO, ISO country code, ccTLD, Stanag, GENC (US gov), official name, and CIA-supplied comment.

     @lanodan It's technically an NGO, but they operate like the IEEE.
     
     Technically, in the US, a verbatim copy may be subject to copyright enforcement, but a list of facts is not, so most of what ISO publishes can be republished. (Dictionary authors used to include fake entries to catch people that would produce their dictionaries by rephrasing existing dictionaries, but I don't think ISO does anything like that.)

     @p @mrsaturday we've got an election for prime minister and leading government coming up before Mid May. I haven't voted since 1998 and my first voting year. Here our right leaning is liberals and current sitting government are left leaning. That's why we got the social media ban for under 16 in this 4 year term end. Once we change to liberals and right leaning policies, it most likely will be reversed, along with other shit like welcome to country crap. We had a failed referendum to recognise indigenous peoples in this left leaning term. Aussies don't actually approve of their individual referendum raised policies or the voice to recognition would've passed. Liberals want nuclear power haha so it's funny to watch unfold.      @lanodan Well, the CIA produces it as part of the World Factbook (which is about as CIA-like as you expect, but you can't psyop "list of country codes and abbreviations"), they're distributing but not selling it. ISO might want to limit distribution but I don't think they're going to.
