     why would they need to learn how to read a clockface when there is a chance they may have never seen one except in a movie in the background?

     if you had power, you could mandate the usage of clockfaces (whether they're analog or digital, it doesn't really matter, you could make a digital clock that had a clockface instead of just numerals).
