@evan “seek out differing opinions” has become a loaded phrase coded to imply that rejecting/muting/blocking ppl espousing hate & bigotry is unfair, prejudiced, seeking an “echo chamber”
so how does one answer that question?

My #Worldcon schedule is … nothing. I may never be able to go to Worldcon, or any con
Because Long Covid has left me disabled. Can’t travel. Can’t even walk more than a few steps. Reinfection could kill me
ffs ppl mask up! Your next “cold” could really fuck you up. You don’t want this
@clive @suzannealdrich A Scrivener file is actually a file bundle of text files, plus other files containing the organizing metadata (binders, tags, styles, etc). The individual “documents” are saved as rtf files.
If you lose the app or whatever, you can rename the project file’s .scriv suffix to .zip and unzip that file, and within the resulting folders all your documents are there in rtf format.
“Recall records everything users do on their PC, including activities in apps, communications in live meetings, and websites visited for research.”
But don’t worry, it’s encrypted, Microsoft says.
4y ago, when #covid was spreading across the world, I got sick. 4d of severe illness
Then I “recovered” except for low fever, fatigue, body aches…
I worked—& crashed, barely able to get out of bed, rested days/weeks, felt better, went back to work—crashed. That’s the cycle
I set activity limits, cut them back & back…
Today if I walk >400 steps, stand >2 min, sit up >2h, or have >10 min heart rate >85bpm … I crash
Hard lessons. Took a long time to accept I’m #disabled w #LongCovid #MECFS
Has anyone built a tool that maps which #fediverse instances* federate with which —something to visualize who’s federating (or not federating) with whom?
bc that would be an awesomely useful resource when picking a new community to join/migrate to

* above a given membership threshold obvs bc there are a gazillion fedi instances
@mike @brianstorms @MonaApp I was clicking on the account links listed in the original post above.
@mike @brianstorms All of them. I’m using @MonaApp
@mike @brianstorms Each link opens a Flipboard website page for the publication, covered by a popup to get the app. So I clear the popup (which pops up every time, even on revisits) and click Follow — but instead of Following the publication, I get another popup to open Flipboard app. Instead of connecting us with these publications in the fediverse, each account pushes me repeatedly to the app. Seems more about marketing than connecting.
@brianstorms @mike I too don’t see the point. Every account link takes me out of the Fediverse. It’s not quite federation, is it?
@feditips @whalecoiner Link-shortener & proxy URLs are mystery meat. They track you. They inject a middleman between you and what you’re hoping to see/read. They slow down the web. Over time, they disappear, breaking connections.
Bitly, tco, AppleNews, Flipboard, whatever … No thanks, I don’t care what it is, if it’s a link-shortener or proxy URL, I scroll on by.
@shrugdealer @hannu_ikonen “Prosperity gospel” in our culture treats disability as a moral failing. This is how ableism is brushed aside with such indifference (at best), casual cruelty (so commonly), and outright malice (by intent).
And this same cycle describes ineffective approaches & attitudes re racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ageism, class poverty…
When people talk about systemic oppression, this is part of it.

Interesting use of a gendered term as an epithet
