@mattly Why yes, I do think that is the accurate term. I don’t remember if these were 900 hotline numbers specifically, or if there were charges, but I do remember a directory of topics in the phone book and corresponding phone numbers you could call to get more information on said topics.

@skinnylatte we camp with a skillet and make a lot of 1 pan food. I also bring along meal kits sometimes. Nobody in my family will tolerate nuts and granola but I love camping.

@thomasfuchs yeah someone didn’t think this through very well. I get that there is a balance with privacy and accessibility to be maintained, but this doesn’t provide anything like the experience it could. Yes, it’s a distributed systems problem. I don’t know if we need to have centralization or not to make a proper search happen on Mastodon. Is another approach possible? It sounds like the ATProto makes you have a copy of the whole network and I can’t see that being sustainable. One of the good things about the fediverse is the startup cost is low, and needing to store a copy of everything on the network would negate that.

@thomasfuchs the search doesn’t work at all man. Like, it’s not oh this search is poor. No. It doesn’t work at all. Why even have a search button if you’re not really going to implement a feature? It’s frustrating.

@mattly I recently had some kind of bug with homebrew and a few formulae that wouldn’t update, and I got nothing but garbage error messages. I found a branch that seemed related to fixing the bug and checked it out, and got past the bug. Everything has been normal since, but I feel much more like this is a project I need to monitor because it doesn’t just dumbly work.

@mattly @thomasfuchs I don’t understand how any of this got past design review. It’s ugly. It’s broken. You can’t see shit, and what you can see looks all misaligned and pixelated. Functionally unusable, really. The only thing that’s good is I hear the apple guy responsible for this dumpster fire of desktop has jumped ship for Meta. Sad that Apple didn’t ditch him before he wrecked their UX.

That makes sense. This was my best friend’s mom’s recipe. I worked in their restaurant as a busser on Sundays for the church crowd. Everyone thought it was funny because I was a gringa being paid under the table 😆

I grew up with burritos filled with shredded chicken in Northern California, I can’t find it anywhere else. I guess it’s tinga de pollo? I don’t enjoy any other Mexican chicken meat preparation. I really miss my hometown burritos. 💔

@inthehands I’ve been thinking about this a long time. Decades. What I came up with is we need a new social movement based on the arts. Basically an artistic revolution or renaissance.

@thomasfuchs well, they’re doing it wrong. You’re supposed to work backward from the problem to the solution, and design a tool that affords solving it.

@inthehands I think I can say unequivocally that this is the end of the career of Chuck Schumer. He’s toast. The other parts of the outcome were bad, but this is good.

Dear Apple,

Please make a phone (again) that fits in my hand and that has a screen I can fully reach my thumb across and also has a decent battery life. Otherwise we are sticking with the iPhone minis until they die.

Also I found these cool fake AirPods with a screen in China that cost less and do more than your models; why are you so boring - whatever happened to “Think Different”?

@inthehands I don’t get how the JP Morgans of the world aren’t freaking out and getting Trump and friends to stop? How are the brain worm people holding such sway? Is the Kompromat really that damning?

@inthehands I’m fighting against this all the time with my daughters. The older one who is a senior now doesn’t think she’s a math person, while the younger one who is in third grade thinks math is awesome. I think it has something to do with bad teaching because there’s no freaking way it came from gender policing at home.
