Maybe I’m missing something, but as a MacOS user since System 7 - surely Apple have been demonstrating how to do just that since last century?

@benpate this is exciting. I’m curious if each track will be an ActivityPub object contained with some other kind of album/list/bundle container? So people could create (permissions allowing) playlists of tracks from different albums/artists?

There's one benefit from #Meta adopting #ActivityPub I think; plz tell me if I'm wrong:

That all large orgs, universities, publications, charities, governments, councils, political parties, ministries, institutions, broadcasters etc may finally be persuaded to have their own ActivityPub server on a subdomain of theirs. That won't just give them a platform to us 1.5 million here but 100m+ more.

And if it means they move from Xitter to selfhost so we can follow if we want, that seems a leap fwd.

@newlouisallaway I thought the decision voted on (https://www.loomio.com/d/AZcJK6y2/discussion-support-the-anti-meta-fedi-pact/344) was to moderate Threads at the Limit level? A compromise that lets us follow/be followed if we want, without exposing Threads content on our local timeline.

@newlouisallaway hmm, not sure - @Matt_Noyes @ntnsndr @foolishowl - was a decision made around de-federating Threads beyond the one vote that was marked as 'passed' (for 'limiting') in the four votes we did earlier this year?

Ooh, just checked the new(?) #Peertube search – https://joinpeertube.org/browse-content. It's surprisingly fast and has a nice UI. Searching for "CiviCRM" (no hashtag needed) it brought up 69 videos, 2 channels and 4 playlists, in under a second.

Imagine if the new world arms race was trying to compete with #China in #climate leadership to limit planetary collapse. (They're winning by a long way)

Some #fediverse news from #FOSDEM —Kris @nova plans to bring #DemocraticGovernance to hacyderm.io. The ~40k user instance (20k actives) will be umbrella'd by the new Nivenly Foundation, and have three membership layers: General, Contributor and Corporate - built on the key principle of #OneMemberOneVote regardless of who you are.

Learning about #ChatControl at #fnf2022 was reminded of the story last month of a man whose google ac was shut down after he'd sent a medical photo of his son's groin to their doctor & an AI had flagged it as CSAM.
