Only issue I had with Authorized Fetch enabled on my instance is I couldnt follow Peertube / Pixelfed accounts. It would appear to work, but Id check later & not following.

Turned off authorized fetch & problem went away for me & users on my instance.

as @kainoa pointed out, calckey already does this, which is where I got the idea, i.e. I stole it.

what followed was several weeks of cat and mouse w/the offender before I got the account back and I was forced to basically keep the account in play, and the persona because from anyone from the outside as I bounced between the accounts, I now looked like a crazy erratic person.

I've kept it for the last 10 years, and will keep it until twitter ultimately crashes and burns. I don't really use it, and have it locked, but expect the culprit would do it again the second the handle became available

Approximately 10 years ago, I ditched the original "Mr Bitterness" twitter account, even though I had a few thousand followers, as I had mostly tired of the persona, where I used to make a bunch of edgy, goofy, inappropriate jokes. It was "new" in 2008, but by that point, there were a million people doing it, and it had just run it's course. My account was promptly impersonated using my old avatar, w/a bunch of weird questionable behavior.

in the process, a lot of people I considered "friends" no longer believed I was the real original person, and I never got those followers back, and lost a lot of interaction/interest from them in music I released. As in they no longer helped boost it as we had done w/each others work in the past, etc.

Complete pain in the ass, and I'm still livid about the whole experience. Real piece of shit person who claimed to be a friend and that it was only a "joke." Motherfucker what?

Seeing another entitlement wave spread across mastodon. Folks, with rare exception your admin pays literal money for you to have an account on their instance.

The least you can do is follow their instance rules. If you dont like the rules on their instance, unlike twitter, you have the option to move instances or start your own.

You're not being monetized, you're account is literally costing someone money.

Lose the twitter-victim mentality.

back on Birdchan, I used to make the case that every account should have at least 2 feeds: the main feed, and then a secondary feed for things like live-tweeting sporting events, competitions, etc.

For those that want to follow, go to the second feed of person, but not impact the main timelines, etc.

With some of the other #Fediverse projects like Hubzilla, Calckey, etc. already having some version of channels or secondary feeds, I'd still love to see that model in some form.

@oliphant I just clued in to your account. I use your blocklists. Thank you for the work you do in putting that together. It's a great help.

People have been allowed to spew their bullshit online for so long by platforms without proper consequence, that they are genuinely taken aback when you say "No thank you / Pound Sand / Kick Rocks."

No one here is obligated to be force fed anything. You are not owed their attention or consideration.

@kainoa yep. that's what made me think of it. I've seen it in calckey and I would love to see it everywhere. It really helps to know what's going on, especially when you're following someone that has several accounts all named similarly.

one thing I'd like to see standard across various federated projects is a small icon and/or text indicating the source project of a post, i.e. Mastodon, Calckey, Misskey, Pixelfed, Peertube, etc.

If the point of the #Fediverse is interoperability, it would make sense to highlight that and sort of make clear what you're seeing in your feed and its source (or what you're seeing in Federated feed where you wouldn't necessarily know the source.)
