Honestly considering moving instance as mine has decided to defederate from threads, I live in the real world which isn’t going to move to anything without real backing of some kind (threads is unideal, but better than as is, ideally we would have a well funded cooperative). Really need to fix funding in open source.

    Clarity on stance with regards to Threads
    
    This summer we had huge discussions and multiple votes on how to deal with Meta's Threads. Then a lull as things calmed down, with little to report on Thread's plans. Now, all that is back with full force with Mark Zuckerberg pronouncing his optimism for ActivityPub support, and read-only support being launched. As far as I am aware the prior discussions and votes did not lead to clarity on the approach to be taken. If there's any time to make decisions in this regard, then it is now.

  @newlouisallaway hmm, not sure - @Matt_Noyes @ntnsndr @foolishowl - was a decision made around de-federating Threads beyond the one vote that was marked as 'passed' (for 'limiting') in the four votes we did earlier this year?

  @newlouisallaway I thought the decision voted on (https://www.loomio.com/d/AZcJK6y2/discussion-support-the-anti-meta-fedi-pact/344) was to moderate Threads at the Limit level? A compromise that lets us follow/be followed if we want, without exposing Threads content on our local timeline.

    Discussion: Support the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact
    
    For some time, there have been rumors that Meta (Facebook) has plans to impose itself on the Fediverse. These rumors have recently been confirmed, with the news that Meta is developing a clone of Mastodon, referred to as "Project 92", "Barcelona", or "Threads", and that it has had a meeting with the administrators of several large Mastodon instances, possibly including Eugen Rochko, while silencing them with a non-disclosure agreement.Meta is an oligopoly that has aggressively sought to control social media, through absorption of other social media companies, and through policies of "embrace, extend, and extinguish", as with the RSS and XMPP protocols. Meta, through Facebook, is infamous for condoning the spread of far right ideology and of dangerous misinformation.There have been calls for pre-emptively blocking Meta's project. In particular, @vantablack@beach.city, administrator of a small Mastodon instance, beach.city, has proposed the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact.https://fedipact.online/I see our best hope in collective resistance.Therefore, I would like us to discuss whether we should support this move, and if so, how best to do so. As a starting point for discussion, I suggest the following:Social.Coop commits to blocking any Fediverse instances that Meta creates.We, as a body, sign the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact.We follow up by collectively drafting and issuing a public statement.(As I have not been active in Social.Coop discussions, I hope that the way I am presenting this is appropriate, and I welcome constructive criticism.)

  @foolishowl @nicol @Matt_Noyes @ntnsndr That makes more sense, I think it has been taken to see that we were part of fedipact by whoever administrates that website, and therefore any lists of instances that federate with threads.

  @nicol @newlouisallaway @Matt_Noyes @ntnsndr I don't remember if we formally voted on joining the Fedipact, specifically, but my sense was that would only be relevant if we voted to block, not just to limit.
  At https://fedipact.online/ I see one signatory with a social coop address; I imagine they were speaking for themself.
  Also, looking at https://fedipact.veganism.social/ now, I don't see social coop listed.
