@atomicpoet That worked up until this year. The problem is that now, more and more, Google returns junk. (And so do other search enginges — it's not just a problem with Google.)
More and more, I find myself wanting to ask my questions of an actual human, because I can't trust the internet at all.
@liztai What kind of sandwich? A grilled cheese would definitely include butter, but a pb&j or ham and cheese (made at home) would not. A generic deli sandwich would depend on the deli.
@youronlyone@languagelovers@linguistics At least in my English variety, that would be naturally expressed as “I am the third-oldest sibling” (or “I am the second-youngest” — if you’re closer to the bottom, it’s more natural to count from the bottom).
You can also say “second-oldest/second-youngest girl/boy”.
@evan Between those options, it’s a tossup between citizen and consumer. But by actual answer is something like “entrepreneur”, although broader (since you don’t necessarily have to be doing it for profit).
Activism has its place I guess, but I’m starting to suspect that we’re past the point where it will make much difference. Everybody who would be convinced by a scientific or activist-y argument already knows.
Qualified agree. Everyone should be able to program in the same way that everyone should be able to write: most people won't do it professionally or bother getting good at it, but they should still be able to script basic tasks.
