     This seems like an accurate claim to me. I do not put butter on my sandwiches, nor do I know anybody who does that, nor can I think of any restaurant that serves sandwiches that way. Source: I’ve been American my whole life.

     I do butter my toast though, I may need to give this a try. Would I substitute the mayonnaise for butter? I just recently discovered grilled cheese sandwiches fried in mayo instead of butter.

     @liztai I can’t speak for Americans, but, depending on the fillings, butter on a sandwich is quite normal in 🇨🇦.

     @jfslicer When I make grilled cheese sandwiches, I actually slather butter on both sides of the bread so that when I put it in the oven the top would be crispy too. I dare you to try it lol

     @liztai Not normally. It would be normal though on a grilled cheese. But I can't think of too many other sammies we'd put butter on.

     @liztai What kind of sandwich? A grilled cheese would definitely include butter, but a pb&j or ham and cheese (made at home) would not. A generic deli sandwich would depend on the deli.

     @liztai @iiogama I’m a fan of coarse mustard. Not on every sandwich, but on many. I also sometimes use olive oil. But butter on toast is a must.
