"JD Vance and his wife spent only three hours in Greenland during a visit—entirely on a U.S. military base. Protests and a full business boycott forced them to leave, as locals refused to serve or admit them anywhere."
"Bukele said they were taken to a 'Terrorism Confinement Center,' where the video showed that masked officers then forced the men to their knees, shaved their heads and marched them in white shirts and shorts into a cell block. Bukele said the inmates would go into forced labor for at least a year, possibly more”
The US did this to a green card holder. I won't be visiting or even transiting the US any time soon.
“…stripped naked, put in a cold shower by 2 officials…placed on a mat in a bright room w/other people at the airport, w/little food or water, suffered sleep deprivation, & was denied access to his medication for anxiety & depression.”
How long before we say the US WAS the leading member of NATO? I think Trump has been clear that the US will not come to the defense of 'some' NATO members.
"There was no representative from the United States, which is the leading member of NATO."
When societies achieve this level of inequality, fascism is a typical outcome. Because the more unequal things get, the more those with the most want and take. Rich people are rarely good people.
Why #linux will never have mass appeal, reason number 487 - though they all boil down to the same reason: Linux is hard to install for non-techies. Case in point:
1. I researched which flavour would be good: #Mint was suggested and selected. 2. Mint promises easy-to-use, lots of support, etc. 3. Mint's instructions are incorrect - they tell you to Select Image but that must be an old option, as I don't see it. 4. Mint says to 'copy your iso file.' No no-tech knows what or where that is.
"Elon Musk shared a post on his social network stating that Slim could have ties to criminal groups, and five minutes later, Carlos Slim canceled all business collaborations with Starlink in Latin America, which made Musk lose 7 billion US dollars.
"An hour later, Slim announced that he would transfer his projects for the next 5 years with Starlink, an investment of 22 billion dollars, to companies in China and Europe."
💯 this, though I'd say Trump voters are not all feeble-minded - but all are morally corrupt and should never be trusted again.
"There are many ways to be part of the resistance. Start forming those networks now.
"Also, don't include anyone who voted for rump as part of your networks. Even if they show regret now. It shows a feeble mind that is easily manipulated and you can't have that risk."
I read that Colombia's main demand was that people not be shackled in chains, which the US agreed to, so Colombia agreed to accept them. (I'm in Colombia reading El Pais in Spanish. )
Just finished The Lost Cause by @pluralistic (Cory Doctorow), and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a fast-paced novel that integrates climate change. Based on all the other reading and studying I've done - nonfiction, science-based! - CD's description of life in the near future seems pretty damn accurate. He includes impacts from things like fires and MAGA, and a great glimpse into how different groups think and act.
Novels that ignore climate change are going to seem like fantasy soon.
What binds "white nationalists, American imperialists, misogynists, Christian fundamentalists, and finance bros" together? Conservatives believe that some people are born to rule and others to be ruled. Progressives believe nobody was born to rule others.
This is the message Trump wanted to send so that he could create a gang of lawless thugs to do his bidding. He doesn't need to prosecute people like Fauci and Milley - he'll just set his goons on them.
"By pardoning the Jan6 rioters, incl fmr Proud Boy Enrique Tarrio (serving 22 yrs), Trump is saying, "If you're my violent mob, I got your back. There's no penalty for violence against my enemies."
With Trump and fossil fuel companies winning, nonviolent sabotage is one of only two ways we have left to save ourselves. (The other way is violence, a la Luigi or much larger scale.)
“Activists from #ShutTheSystem have cut fibre optic cables to offices of hundreds of insurance companies, in a new form of non-violent direct action."
"4/ Heartbreak is replacing my anger. Two things have sunk in, I think. The first is that there can be no resolution. That is, the active pursuit of the genocide will cease, I'm sure. But there is no redress for genocide. It is, and should be, a mark of Cain. —>"
We need to move fast on climate and we’re still going in the wrong direction. We cannot get there without social justice and equality - all eco and justice groups need to pin forces. I blog occasionally about how narcissists and other sociopaths have most of the power and are literally driving us of the climate cliff. [Site coming back soon.]
