@Johannab @mekkaokereke Sometimes nonprofits have boards who micromanage, but primarily the job of a nonprofit board is to fundraise, advise the executive director, and keep the organization out of legal troubles. Boards generally should not be engaging with the day-to-day of the organization’s operations.

Mourning the fact that I want to be a fabulous host and neighborhood community gatherer, but for health reasons, I don’t feel like I can open my home in the way I’d like.

@joeo10 experienced two instances of this this week. My family member had blinds to be installed, but when we opened the package, they were broken and missing parts. In a second instance, some holiday lights were missing the plug part to go into the outlet!

@andrewducker @goatsarah as I understand it, there are kinda sorta some things we can do, if we’re able to anticipate it, which is why there are a bunch of researchers working on #heliophysics (aka #SolarWeather) to better understand these phenomena. I think the best defense we have is to shut down electrical grids if we anticipate impacts. Also, I think only the side facing the sun gets hit, so it’s not everywhere that’s impacted at once, for better or worse.

@annika from what I understand is that it just gets the counts wrong. That’s been my experience comparing the same post accessed from two accounts I have on different servers.

@occhiolist well, in my experience, you can only see the replies from servers your server federates with. For me that’s kinda broken because it can look like no one responded to something (this could be happening right now!), so I respond, but the original poster gets a deluge of these sorts of replies from people who just don’t realize that a million others have already said the same thing.
Not sure if that’s what @thomasfuchs is talking about, but it’s on my mind

@thomasfuchs I agree that making it easy to join is super important, I also feel like pointing people to an ever-growing gravity well is dangerous. I think it would be cool if there was a way to have people try out a server temporarily to start before forcing them to move on once acclimated.

In the process of migrating accounts from .social. It'll take a while since I'm trying to download my old archive ? Setting up the redirect feels a bit scary, I confess, but I think it's for the best.
