Honest question, since I'm in Canada and I know about this much -->.<-- about non-profit boards here - can the Board of this org end up with their hands in the developers' work?

Seeing there's a lot of anxiety over who some of these people are, and and immediate leap to "therefore, enshittification ensues ..." in the platform itself.

But an NFP Board (Canadian) is primarily concerned with its fundraising and budgeting, and advising the CEO - not directing projects. Same here?

A NEW and unrelated US Charitable foundation has been formed to fundraise for and support Mastodon GmbH FROM the US, which just allows US'ians to get a tax slip for their support.

I don't think it can actually touch the product or its currently-two-almost-three developers?

You can make some substitutions here, using any corporate/commercial monolithic site for “Twitter” and pointing out that “Mastodon” is not the network or the Fediverse, just one of many interconnecting applications available. Depends on how complicated you want to get or where your contact has their base of familiarity.

Current interest: “Socializing Fedizens”. How do we elevate the discourse, with policy, practice or tools, and limit the NEED for moderator activity in online conversation?

@fediforum is there a way I can revise my stated interests for the next un-conf?

Some recent events have given me ideas, including one I could probably share a short presentation on or take more of a lead rather than just ask questions.

There is a book - series, actually, fiction - that started in I think the late 80’s, I read it in the 90’s, and it NAILED the rise of personal-pocket-communication AND the resulting social media hellscape we now have. A couple years before TB-L figured out a hyperlink.

I find reviewing these prescient things fascinating, if a little depressing.

I really wish this account were in the Fediverse, but I suppose their work is needed in the Metaverse and Xittyverse as much or more.

Alas it ill@likely miss most of #fediforum day two today - too many conflicts with the real world. But yesterdays info and ideas were so engaging, I want to go back so I can re-do each hour a few times and get in on ALL the sessions! Take good notes for me.

@atomicpoet assuming is bad. Ask is good, but respecting the response, which *may* be to decline to engage, is vital. If you’re paying attention, though, such a response will also inform you somewhat as to the perspective.

@ramin_hal9001 @feld I recognize this. Also gotta pick the small battles at times and start shifting the ethic in those ways.

Unions, co-ops, labour-favouring market conditions can all be leveraged. As can "more ethical leaning capital" choices, like baking in a lower shareholder return that comes AFTER something like carbon offsetting.

My current tear is about language. My team should not see our customers as "the other side" from a "war room". We're all trying to keep hospitals running, FFS.

I wish people would stop using terms like "war room" and "arms race" in realms like technology advancement and social structures like organizations and government/politics.

We need "strategy tables" and "community forums" and "collaboration interfaces".

The words have meaning and shape the interactions. The message, in its connotations, corrupts the medium.
