@regehr my other favorite Therac fact is that one time I was teaching that paper and popped over to the manufacturer's website to see what they were doing nowadays, and this was their actual slogan:

My answer was that the Therac-25 was not so much the equivalent of the space shuttle blowing up as it would be the equivalent of the space shuttle blowing up because NASA made it out of papier-mache for no particular reason.

@ricci If your NIC winds up with a sufficiently long interface name, like enp8s0f0npf0vf1, and your vlan id is high enough, you'll be unable to bring up a vlan interface like enp8s0f0npf0vf1.1024 because that exceeds the maximum interface name length (IFNAMSIZ = 16)
