@skinnylatte yea, New Mexico has some great cuisine
@skinnylatte yea, and textually in the game you experience those moments as that character's own memory of them, and it's… a lot
those Big Emotions come her struggles with a dual identity and wanting to individuate herself from her parents as all do, and their own HKer trauma (and general *gestures* absorbed from the culture like fish in water)
it's a lot, in an amazing (and also heart-rending) way
@skinnylatte there's a bit in 1000xRESIST where a character's (immigrant) dad makes her 伊面 for her birthday and Big Emotions surrounding the noodles and it hit so hard for me that I just kinda had to sit there for a bit and process how much more potent that theme would be if I had lived experience with this cultural relationship to food rather than from-afar shallow awareness of it
@skinnylatte clever name! I assume that space is wordplay on 定食 and 手
@skinnylatte many congratulations Adrianna, this is great news
@dalias once upon a time I found it a more palatable option (perhaps because I was substantially more ignorant of Linux, and things were just generally worse then)
but I'm getting ready to switch to mainline Debian because I get the distinct feeling a lot of the "this is bullshit" behaviors on my system is the direct consequence of being downstream of their decisions
@skinnylatte your parents sound so cool
@skinnylatte she was such a good dog, and she loved you so much
@dalias we were all new to that idea, once
@inthehands true or not, guarantee it's happening somewhere!
@skinnylatte looks very good 🤤
@skinnylatte same, but I was cracking a NYCpol-flavored joke on the "cold hard cash"
@skinnylatte as long as it's not in a potato chip bag
@dalias @hipsterelectron LPM = language package manager, or?
@skinnylatte "why shouldn't we use the ring" dork-ass fools
@skinnylatte I was similarly nonplussed once I'd tried it, having heard all the hype. I personally chalk it up to a few things:
1) California semi-exclusivity pride
2) Secret menu meme
3) MAYONNAISE
@skinnylatte probably true!
@skinnylatte any mental gymnastics at all to avoid those three simple words: "I don't know"
@skinnylatte does your part of Amtrak leave slips of paper marking already-checked passengers at the seats? That's really common on the NEC and Boston's Commuter Rail.
Not that the job still wouldn't be more challenging with an externalized aide, of course. (at least there are lots of other jobs on a train!)
Hi, I'm James. Eternal dilettante and purveyor of nonsense, much of it about #Python or #physics. I work for a computer vision company whose customers actually care about results, so the current """AI""" craze is slowly melting my brain. I boost more than I post. TANSTAAFLAvatar drawn by Nick Shea
