Where can I read more about this ‘rating system for peer feedback providers’? Looking up ‘rating for peer feedback’ provides only links about ‘peer review examples’ and so on.
Since he lived before the times of Epictetus, Seneca, or Marcus Aurelius, can it be said that the Stoics borrowed a couple (or a lot) of ‘stuff’ from him?
I’m really sorry and this is so unfortunate. My instance too has been ‘blocked’ or as they say, ‘Suspended’ from mastodon.art because some Admin of that instance thought that I’m a ‘fan’ of @alex ‘Fan’ because I’ve been recommending Soapbox + Rebased which Alex has created. It’s a great piece of software so what’s wrong in recommending it?
Another reason cited was ‘recommends Spinster’: I did because I was trying to help some lady out here who was looking for a Feminist oriented instance. And Bam, “Suspended because the admin recommends Spinster”.
Enough rant and I don’t need to explain myself because I find it laughable. However, big Instances/Servers being run on the whims and fancies of Instance Admins will be the downfall of the Federation. It defeats the entire purpose.
End note: Suspended means I can no longer see posts from the instance on the timeline of my instance.
I’m using Rebased (a Pleroma fork). Added the following in the list of relays. Doesn’t seem to work. Was this meant only for Mastodon? Or do I need to add ‘actor’ somewhere as is the case for Pleroma based instances?
Octofloofy - I have completely disabled relays on my instance based on this advice from @alex . And it holds true from my observation. Relying on interacting with instances instead and it works ?
Once you add a few relays, though, you’ll quickly discover that:
Performance suffers. Suddenly your server is processing a LOT of posts.
99% of the content are things you don’t want to see. They may be posts in a foreign language, advertisements, pornography, bot posting, and spam.
Over time, your database size will grow and grow. Before you know it, you’ve stored 200 GB of Japanese shitposts and furry porn for no apparent reason, and your community is no better off.
You find the need to moderate activity in the Fediverse feed. You waste time tracking down inappropriate content and trying to figure out how to remove it.
This is very expensive. You’re paying a lot of hard-earned money for content you and your users don’t want to see.
I know Rebased is a fork of Pleroma. Alex had reasons to ‘branch out’ from Pleroma, which was not just as simple as ‘compatibility issues’ from what I’ve read.
Alex - Hats off to your dogged commitment to this project. Thank you again.
Please note that while this will automate things but looking up simple things like blocking a domain or ‘what to do when stuck’ are not answered. I completely understand that there aren’t much contributors so you have to resort to this. But thought I should add my two cents as I want this project to succeed.
To conclude, people (and certain companies) have tried this approach of automating documentation (or their Knowledge base) even using Postman but the results are not the best - users cannot find what they are looking for.
Alex - Stick to the good work you’re doing. Their show xxx new items is still clunky (not meaning to say Elk is ‘baad bad’ like a teenager). Many things Elk could to pick up from Soapbox and Soapbox from Elk. Win win for all, IMO.
Janitor of https://mastindia.co. Ex-janitor of northeast.one but decided to kill it & whip up this one using Rebased + Soapbox because of the known resource issues with Mastodon and because the Soapbox FE is awesome. Will continue to post/reboost #NorthEastIndia and #India related stuff like @India or things that interest me. On rare occasions, shit post too.? This instance is still a WIP. If you see glitches, would be grateful if you could share. Thanks for dropping by.
