You might be aware of it already but the site isn't working correctly at the moment. I made sure it was the main server this time ?, it's the public.mitra.social one. Site is not more than the black background with blue/pink bubble gradients. Login disappeared altogether, as well as the timeline feed which I was already logged into earlier. It is just a blank page. I tested it on both mobile and desktop, same issue is happening on both. -

Anytime! I'm happy to help! ? There are a few other things I found I'll send to you later once I'm back on PC (took notes over there).
Ran into another possible issue. I just tried to log into the instance from my phone (I registered via my Windows desktop PC earlier) and when I put in my login information I am getting the "User Not Found" error. I triple checked the form info to make sure I put everything in properly, and my login information was correct but I still get the error. I use the Mull browser on Android if that's any help!

Yes please! I'd love to give it a try! ? As for the resistance against it goes, please don't let it discourage you. No matter what I think there are always going to be people who are resistant to change, but the thing is, just because the feature is being developed doesn't mean anything is going to change for those people. I am sure there will be instances and admins who feel the same way they do and purposely not use those features or take them out if that's what they want for their instance. That's one of the great things about the Fediverse, is how flexible it is and if you don't like a certain platform or server you can just join a different one. But opening the door to monetization so that the option is there for people to have those features could be huge! It could be what finally gets people to leave abusive big tech platforms for something that finally empowers people. ? I already posted about it on my Facebook page and several people were excited about it having no idea what the Fediverse even is. ? But people hate platforms like Facebook and would love to leave, they just don't feel like they can leave because their businesses are so intertwined with it. What you're working on could be what finally opens the door for all these people to break free from big tech, so I hope you don't give up on this project! I really believe in it!
I'm really enthusiastic about this so whatever you need in terms of feedback, testing new features, etc I'd love to help!

Taking a pause on my #CSS course for a little bit to actually practice what I've learned. I'm getting through the course and actually grasping what I'm learning, but the problem with the course I'm taking is I don't think there are enough exercises for me to actually retain it all. So to practice, I'm using other websites as reference and attempting to copy the look of it and build it from scratch using what I've learned so far. Seems to be a great strategy and is helping but if anyone knows of any sites that have some really great beginner CSS #coding exercises, send 'em my way and I'll give them a try! -

Is it possible to add #monetization features to the #Fediverse? There are a lot of mainstream sites that have #gifting features for content creators in which they can convert those gifts to a payout. It'd be amazing if something like that could be implemented throughout the Fediverse to #donate to people's favorite content creators. ? Might help the Fediverse gain traction more quickly as well. People stick with a lot of #mainstream platforms because there's money to be made there. It's harder to leave big corporate platforms when your livelihood is attached to it. But if such a feature existed in the Fediverse that was compatible across all Fediverse platforms ? IMAGINE the growth that would happen and all the opportunities that would open up for people. We could all finally break free from the financial shackles that have content creators tied to #corrupt #BigTech #corporations, bring them here to the Fediverse in which they have the potential to be supported by followers across all platforms. ?
What do you guys think about this? Is it possible? -

I'd like to move my main account on mstdn.social to one of the mastodon instances they've suspended. ? Is that possible? I have tried but it won't let me, I'm assuming it is because it's suspended that I can't transfer there. That's really frustrating though.. that functionality should still be possible no matter what instances they've blocked, since it's our own account and we're supposed to be able to pick up and move wherever we want right? -

@wickedsmoke Thank you! I ended up doing a work around ? . I moved everything to the cupoftea instance and from there moved everything here. I tried the import/export thing in the past but got an error about an upload limit. I don't know if servers must set the file size limit for that but it wouldn't let me transfer anything that way. :( Oh well. There wasn't really much on that account I was worried about losing anyways. I'll probably post mainly coding progress updates on this account and some casual posts going forward. -

@wickedsmoke I didn't see any but @alex might know a bit more about the block list. I haven't noticed anything too crazy though around here so far. You can see the troll accounts but I think the more serious things like illegal content and porn are blocked. -

@anders @alex Brace yourself for a wall of text ? I apologize in advance... I hope you like to read.
I guess what bothers me is Mastodon themselves shadow bans servers that don't enforce moderation for racism, sexism, and transphobia. I'm not talking about individual instances, but the devs and their server lists. While that sounds like a good thing on the surface, that also means there can't be any real discussion about it and all you get for those topics are echo chambers or else you get shadow banned. I don't believe people are inherently hateful for having a different perspective on those topics. I am sure many will disagree with me on that, but my train of thought is how are we ever to move forward as a collective if we are conditioned that it's automatically wrong to have any other perspective than the ones that are pre-approved for us? There leaves no room for growth or trying to understand each other if we are all forced to be in an echo chamber of everyone who already agrees with us. No problems get resolved that way. How are people ever to work out their differences if there isn't even room for rational discussions about these topics? I just feel like in the long run it does more harm than good. It is pretty easy to distinguish between posts that are intended to hurt people, and posts that are intended to spark critical discussion of a topic and share perspective. The problem is, there's such a strong victim mentality that's been cultivated over the years that we've reached a point where those two things are somehow perceived to be merged together, even though the intentions behind both are very different; one to cause harm, the other to share perspective and bridge the gaps. I don't know that I would ever even post about those things, but I know I probably have some perspectives that would get me banned from an instance if I ever shared how I truly felt. I'm not hateful, but there are definitely double standards I see in these kinds of topics that would likely cause me to fall under those labels simply because my perspective is different than what the echo chamber wants to hear. I would like to support a platform that doesn't shadow ban instances and encourage banning people for simply for wanting to have those critical discussions. Does that make sense? ?
Sorry again that was so long winded lol. I've learned over the years to thoroughly explain myself. Often times people twist words or take things the wrong way and assume things. ? Had lots of bad experiences with that in the past so I try not to leave room for misinterpretation.
Friendica is a pretty good platform I think! I've found a bit more openness there, but depends on the instance you join too kind of like Mastodon. ? As far as I'm aware I don't think they shadow ban instances. I'd still love to follow you if you migrate there! Though, after reading this if you think I'm a racist, transphobe, sexist, etc you don't have to pass along your follow info if you don't want to. ? I'll still have a spirituality channel somewhere separate from my main account like I did on Mastodon. I'm just trying to figure out where in the Fediverse I fit right now and which platforms to call home. -

I actually agree with that ? but I guess for me it isn't about revenge against those who don't respect me in return, I just don't want to be part of the problem that causes such division. I fought with people for 2 years between 2020-2022, and what it taught me is that always fighting against people is exhausting, it actually doesn't have any beneficial effect on the people I'm fighting against, people want to talk but they don't want to listen, It's not making us any more united, it's making us more divided. The more divided we are, the easier it is to be manipulated and controlled. So I don't want to see people as categories anymore, bound by their stereotypes because of what they associate themselves with. That's a big part of why I left Mastodon, is because a big majority of people there see people as categories, not as people, and if you aren't xyz, then you're the scum of the earth essentially. I don't really care what side of politics you're on, if you're black, white, left, right, gay, straight, whatever. I'd rather see people as just being people again. Fellow humans who on some levels I have things in common with, and on other levels not so much. The world would be a much more pleasant place to live if people started seeing each other in all the ways they are the same, instead of all the things that separate us. Maybe we really would make progress then.
But all that being said, I understand why you guys do it. ? And I am not saying you shouldn't do it. My definition of fighting back against society is just different from yours. I am indeed still fighting back, because I am opting for something different than what I identify the problem to be. Plus, I have chosen to be here and not there ? (Mastodon). -
