Octofloofy - I have completely disabled relays on my instance based on this advice from @alex . And it holds true from my observation. Relying on interacting with instances instead and it works ?
Once you add a few relays, though, you’ll quickly discover that:
Performance suffers. Suddenly your server is processing a LOT of posts.
99% of the content are things you don’t want to see. They may be posts in a foreign language, advertisements, pornography, bot posting, and spam.
Over time, your database size will grow and grow. Before you know it, you’ve stored 200 GB of Japanese shitposts and furry porn for no apparent reason, and your community is no better off.
You find the need to moderate activity in the Fediverse feed. You waste time tracking down inappropriate content and trying to figure out how to remove it.
This is very expensive. You’re paying a lot of hard-earned money for content you and your users don’t want to see.
