You know you’re an old U.K. person when you can remember when #BoxingDay wasn’t yet another retail sales orgy in the U.K. Feels like another legacy of the Thatcher shift to US style individualism and consumerism that has so corroded British culture.
I’ve noted since I’ve lived in France how fixated on retail sales data the U.K. is. The sign of a messed up economy you’d have to think.

It’s a pretty damning indictment of how some of the US media is obeying in advance to see where the #NoKings protests sit in the NYT site vs BBC, Le Monde and other western media in general. At least WaPo has them top of the page.

@cmconseils I can’t get excited by the thought of years yet of the continuity regime of the couch shagger, and the beatification of the head of the cult of the red caps, which has a life of its own now sadly, having not been snuffed out after its first incarnation as it rightly should have been.

@vaurora Coming from Glasgow the thing that always seems most daunting to me about cycling for commuting etc is days and days of rain, always feels like it wouid be super demoralising.

@NatureMC @cstross to me it’s like many western democracies now; it has a system that does not reflect the multi party situation now, and also the participation of actors who give no fucks about accepted conventions of how things are done and thus demonstrate the need for more guardrails.
