But I know that we need to stop every crazy waste of life ressources like water, and use of fossile fuels *NOW*. It's possible, people could already stop datacenters in the planning, before the land was destroyed!

@dalias We can stop the building of new datacenters by protesting (already works in several countries). That's much more effective than waiting for a bursting bubble.

@CorioPsicologia I love it! When I proposed a zines workshop for school children in our French museum last year, the administration didn't know what it is and didn't adopt the idea.
Meanwhile you can meet these school children visiting zine events. They exist even in my region.

I made #zines for the first time in the 1970/80s because I was fascinated to produce #minibooks or #magazines with simple materials. I restarted not long ago as a personal protest against being robbed by AI corporations, against AI slop. I wanted to do something simple outside of hype culture.

Well, seems to be a trend now. 😉 And I like it. I like that human explosion of #creativity!

@skinnylatte Fascinating! As you name France: here I see that a culture becomes poorer. When I emigrated to France, talks about food and endless menus with friends and family were deeply incrusted in culture. No deal without a dinner.
Meanwhile, that's a class question. A lot of French families got so poor that they even can't afford 3 meals a day. You can't book a restaurant meal for a group anymore because you always have members who can't pay that. Gastronomy is dying in many places.
The need

After the #extremeHeat in France, the danger of #wildfires is enormous. #Heatwave and #soil #dryness didn't change much for the plants this week - with "cool" 30°C and full sunshine.

#Trees try to resist by getting "dried" #leaves. At a certain heat temp., the process starts at the exterieur like burnings. Then the green vanishes to the centre until #photosynthesis is stopped. If the plant can't get soon enough rain to regenerate, it can die. Food crops die before trees.

@futurebird To be free from Google, the EU invests into an own search machine which is a cooperation of #Ecosia and #Qwant.
No free community would have the financial power you need for such a project!

But for the search machines, you can easily deactivate AI functions. They already work as two but need more data input. Kwant e.g. works quite well for French data but needs more global ones. The searchmachines:

We have several factors for these problems beside account size: belonging to a group like women (mansplaining is horrible here), POC etc
Or write about/for media, politics, polarising themes.
That's a problem everywhere in big groups of people, but as you say Bsky is better in protection.

I have no problems to filter my TL but when I don't see a hate-comment, all others will see it nevertheless.

@quixoticgeek 1. The EU has an official plan to phase out fossil fuels (even if some countries have watered it down).
2. It was just in the media: In Germany, a US-company wanted to built a data-center with gas turbines. They got so many protests from all sides (including regional politicians) that they gave up the plan.
