Kind reminder/request. When you're posting a link, especially to an article, could you please give some idea what it's about? This way people don't have to click on something they have no interest in, something that is slowed down by ads, or something that is just completely inaccessible. Thanks.

@Fragglemuppet I'm probably too Mastodon-focused, where links usually generate such a preview -- are there maybe fedi clients that don't do this?

@Fragglemuppet I 100 percent agree with this; people posting YouTube links in particular are some of the worst offenders.
I will say though that third-party software (particularly targeted at screen reader users) doesn't help here, by truncating URLs and not making the visible previews available. On the Mastodon web UI, people can see a preview card next to most plain URLs so they know what they are without clicking, and people assume everybody will get that info when posting such links. @FreakyFwoof

@Maker_of_Things Unfortunately, the thumbnail+description doesn't jump up always, especially when the post has no text.

@Fragglemuppet
I will do better.
Thank you for the nudge.I usually put a one line description as, on my screen, the website shows up as a thumbnail with description.
I guess that isn't always enough information in itself, if it even appears for others.

@Fragglemuppet I usually say what it is, but had assumed that links to headlines and suchlike would show up as words. Oops. Should have checked.
Now, ought I to go back and edit?

@sunflowerinrain If you want, but I'd say don't stress out over it. Just something to keep in mind going forward.

@Fragglemuppet good suggestion, but ads ? You still see ads in your browser ? maybe install an addfree browser? Vivaldi, brave, ... use sponsorblock extension to not see ads included by youtuber in yourube videos, ... seeing ads can pretty easily be avoided. You can even use a pi-hole to block add on your home network. Ads is a solved problem

@bonno I don't have that problem now usually, but other people might. And I used to, and it can really play havoc with screen readers.
