@GossiTheDog I'm pretty sure not only does a EU citizen not lose the right to opt out, but Meta has the legal obligation to make this opt-in or be fined. The article makes clear that Meta has claimed and failed to live up to EU legislation on this in the past. I do doubt, however, that a simple fine is going to dissuade Meta from these practices, unless the consequence is also that any AI products they launch are barred from the EU. Punishable by fine means legal for the rich, after all.
@libreoffice Excellent! Not just because they're moving to LibreOffice, but because they're doing the exercise of moving in the first place. A major reason why organizations stick with bad tech is because they don't know how to lift & shift.
@libreoffice Actually found the culprit: The AMD Radeon 7900XT Adrenaline software FreeSync Premium feature. Turning that off solved the problem. Very peculiar bug, and no idea why it only affected LibreOffice Writer.
LibreOffice Writer seems to struggle on Windows since the couple of few weeks. Whenever I hover on menus or content navigator in Writer, the screen goes black for a few seconds. No other application has this issue. Anyone else noticing this? Wondering if it's a Windows bug, a LibreOffice bug or AMD graphics bug... @libreoffice#LibreOffice#windows#amd
@_elena Out of interest (and hijacking your thread, sorry): How do you do networking in that field? Just keep a rolodex and bookmark peoples portfolio pages? I've been looking for people to commission a music video & cover art and have no idea how to find the people and get the right question out to them. LinkedIn indeed doesn't really cater to it.
@BethanyBlack Well spotted, though I don't think it has to be an opposition. We might be able to build bridges in the realization that striving for "freedom to" doesn't _have_ to impede another's "freedom from". A libertarian may very well intend to exercise their freedoms to do anything with a sense of civic duty and social awareness. Those who call for social security may very well support the freedom for anyone to do anything as long as they feel acknowledged in their own safety concerns.
@killyourfm I'm considering a Thinkpad for the same reason, although I don't like the keyboard layout. As a European I'm not sure about system76 warranty support. Not a fan of MacOS but I didn't really consider installing Linux on a Mac. Is that advisable at all? Another option I'm considering is Dell XPS 13 plus.
