If you’re in the EU and you opted out of Meta training generative AI on your Facebook, Threads and Instagram posts and pictures, Meta are requiring you to opt out *again* or they will continue training on your data.

Users have until May 27 2025 to opt out again or forever lose the right. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/05/meta-is-making-users-who-opted-out-of-ai-training-opt-out-again-watchdog-says/

This is the random ass opt out URL, which isn’t advertised in their apps: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/6359191084165019

I still strongly believe that the long term impact of generative AI will not be the fifth Industrial Revolution or AI cyber mega war.. but just mass copyright and intellectual property theft to breed fake temporary wealth.

Today’s politicians will be board advisors in 2 years for failed AI companies with $420 share prices.

@GossiTheDog I'm pretty sure not only does a EU citizen not lose the right to opt out, but Meta has the legal obligation to make this opt-in or be fined. The article makes clear that Meta has claimed and failed to live up to EU legislation on this in the past. I do doubt, however, that a simple fine is going to dissuade Meta from these practices, unless the consequence is also that any AI products they launch are barred from the EU. Punishable by fine means legal for the rich, after all.

@GossiTheDog what you post online is not private, you have no rights unless you keep the content private to yourself. Copyright is also bogus too. I hate Meta but an opt out at all is generous on their part, they don't have to. You can't tell a company what to do with info you posted on any public internet medium or on their site. If you want stuff private, keep it private on your own hardware or worst case some entity that is actually financially incentivized to protect you and already well audited. Not sure what the hell people are crying about. This is even worse than the idiots who think they have a magic right for a major cloud company to not go through their files.
