The saddest thing that ever happened to my patriotic straight white privileged male self is realizing that not only doesn't my country stand for democracy, human rights, equality under the law, and decency, but for a huge number of people it never did.

Don't you wish all the people that sat out the last election because they didn't like Harris had instead voted for less evil? My rule remains: vote your principles in the primary, vote party in the general election.

What matters is the people whose lives are upended by this administration. Not voting for the Democrats in that election meant not voting for trans people, queer people, immigrants, children. And that's not okay. Because what the Democrats deserve isn't what matters; it's what the PEOPLE deserve that matters. (And why aren't people equally angry at the DSA and Greens for their inexcusable ineptitude in putting together a decent competitive party standing for better values?)
