A new antisemitic dog whistle I'm seeing online is when someone doesn't want to use the word "Jews" but they want to refer to all Jews, they swap in "Israelite" as in "The Israelites ____" (where the blank is an accusation of blood libel, controlling the media, banking, or some other such nonsense).

Israelites are the tribe of Israel- ie Jews. it's the same as talking about the "Hebrews", but it *sounds* like they're talking about Israelis, with a little plausible deniability thrown in.

It is *not* a synonym for Israelis, and those that use this term know it.

The instances I have a problem with are ones like mastodon.social and mstdn.social.

If I'm to survive emotionally on the Fediverse I need to seek out the warm of sunlight, not the cold of the shadows.

The antisemitism on the network is slowly killing me. By my estimate, every 1 in 200 posts on the Fediverse is antisemitic. I need to seek more refuge in spaces that cultivate love/care, including and especially for Jews (like this instance), or I'll simply burn out as have other Jews before me when trying to keep a presence on this network.

This isn't as considered as many of my kvetches, and it may be #Vancovuer specific but...

I can't get a gyro in this city. Everything is donair and they say they're the same thing, but they're not, nor are the way they serve schwarma here, which is often as a plate, or a wrap, and not in a pita.

Similarly, no one here seems to serve danish pastry (what I'd just call "a danish"). It's just not served here and what they call danish is what I'd call a strudel, which is a different thing.

I can't get corned beef in Vancouver, at least not good corned beef. Omniksy's does sell it, but it's (sadly) inedible. The owner is retiring this month, so maybe there's hope?

And challah... Breka is a life saver here... They offer challah on Fridays. Sadly no raisin challah, but beggars can't be choosers. But they're *basically* the only ones.

Dude... COBS Bread has danishes, and I think Costco does sometimes too.

It seems a strange "co-incidence" that the Jews across eight countries were expelled within a single year.

It's also not true that all Palestinians were forced to leave by Jews. While it's true some land was taken in Israel's independence, many Arabs were ordered to leave their homes by Arab leadership.

Your argument that "The best interests of Jewish people do not trump the best interests of other groups" does not hold moral water because we are not discussing best interests, but rather simple survival of Jews as they were mass murdered in Europe and then has everything taken from them in the MENA.

Where *exactly* should these Jews have gone? What exact policy of justice would you enact to preserve not only their lives, but the lives of the Jewish people?

I wish more people from outside Israel understood that you can be against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and still feel the need to remove Hamas and ensure safety to Israel.

I wish more people understood that you can sympathize with the Palestinian people's struggle for independence and at the same time need your own safety.

I wish more people understood that compassion and care are not zero sum, nor are they of limited supply.

Then they're not asking for the ~350 rockets per day that Hamas shoots into Israel to stop, nor the terrorist attack in Jerusalem to stop, or for them to abide by any other condition of a ceasefire?

In other words, this isn't a ceasefire demand at all, just "Israel, stop defending itself?", right?

All the people calling for a #ceasefire and demonizing Israel, explain to me how you justify the fact that it's Hamas who has violated multiple ceasefires, including the most recent one, just yesterday/today?

Who exactly do you demand a ceasefire from, and what consequences if it's violated?

That's what dog whistles do... they make people seem crazy when they question them.

The blood libel myth is well over 1,000 years old. It's one of, if not the oldest antisemitic myth.

Dehumanizing language regarding a people, calling an entire people "Babykillers" is hate speech, period, end stop. Liking the post and then cheering it on is not in itself hate speech, but indicates that you are either highly ignorant of the meaning, or you agree with the sentiment.

Now two Jews have gone out of their way to tell you how hateful it is, its historical context and modern usage.
