In the interests of annoying everyone in the hard line politics and morals sportsball team model of life...
There's nothing inherently antisemitic about protesting to end a war. Arresting peaceful protesters on college campuses for civil disobedience is not a great look. Regardless of whether you agree with them or not.
On the flipside, chanting things like "yehuda yehuda," "we're all Hamas," or "Remember the 7th of October! That will happen not one more time, not five more times, not 10 more times, not 100 more times, not 1000 more times, but 10,000 times!" surely is all meant to be pirposely antisemitic.
Holding a sign that reads “Al-Qassam’s next target" with an arrow pointing to a group of Jews isn't anti-war or even anti-zionism. It's fucking crazy is what it is.
So stop strong arming protests. They're normal. Even if they have very fucked up elements in them.
Protestors, you got a 'nazi bar' problem and you should fix it or fuck off. There's no excuse for this shit.
"Whether you’re looking for #Passover#food to round out your #seder or seeking ways to keep #kosher during #Pesach’s eight days, you’ll find something in the collection below. Rest assured, these Passover recipes are all #chametz-free (you won’t find any grains here), but some do include #kitniyot (legumes like green beans, peanuts, and soy, as well as corn, sesame seeds, mustard, etc.), which some observances allow during the #Jewish holiday. Regardless of which tradition you follow, there are plenty of classics—matzo ball soup, brisket, flourless chocolate cake—and lots of modern variations (who’s in for vegetarian chopped liver?!)"
Bit of metacommentary but I want to make a point on a poigniant political act from a place of real world experience.
I have a very dear friend who committed suicide by cop as an act of political martyrdom.
For some reasons I irrationally felt partly responsible.
There was a strong push to celebrate their martyrdom from around the left.
I did some media interviews following along with this. Respecting their choice and agency, trying to push away my own sadness and guilt, and to go with the more comfortable and safe left celebration of this "act of heroism."
But having some distance, I know how sad and tragic the events of their life was in the months and weeks before this. I know they had a bleak and desolate view of their future life that felt unbearable.
And while I want to still honor this choice, it wasn't the amazing pure act of heroic valor everyone wanted it to be.
The political content of this suicide didn't make it any less tragic and sad than any other suicide.
Imagine being a non-Jew knowing non-Jews who hate Jews made up the term antisemitism to describe hating Jews and non-Jews universally used it making it the only term that can practically be used to describe hating Jews and then blaming the Jews you hate because they use it too.
Of course, this was also a response to someone complaining that Jews aren't the only semites. Yes, that old canard.
You really can't make up caricatures like this.
They have to happen in the wild to be this fucking spectacularly stupid.
@aral this is an interesting transposition. Shifting nazis to Israel is a nice slight of hand. If this were one to one you'd have said you would never forgive Germans. Which you wouldn't say because it's crackpottery.
@blogdiva@josh I don't typically butt into conversations like this but I came across this on Fedi about a month ago and while it's not perfect I think it's pretty good. Cheers.
Three of the greatest religious horror movies ever made were all directed by #Jewish filmmakers dabbling in the realm of Christian mythology. If that isn’t the definition of irony, I don’t know what is. The process also works in reverse, as Oliver Park demonstrated last year with The Offering, a supernatural chiller set against the seldom seen backdrop of Brooklyn’s #Hasidic community."
And here I thought the chant was "No #Zionist Scum" and all along it was "No Zionist's Cum!" Wocka Wocka.
"The couple sent me a message that left me reeling," Lazarus wrote. "In their words, they couldn't go through with the process due to 'ethical challenges' and their inability to 'navigate parts of my identity' — my #Jewishness."
"Influenced by what they've been told about the conflict between #Israel and #Hamas, this couple preferred to go back to Square One of the #sperm donor process rather than accept my #Jewish sperm."
Jewish themed account focused on diaspora issues w/ minimal related Israel content. Even if the entire world tells you that you are a Tzaddik consider yourself like a RashaHobbies: wandering, rootless cosmopolitaning, well poisoning, making matzo out of... er... stuff, performing talmudic rituals
